The interior doesn’t see any significant changes from the usual Scandinavian design. A mix of high quality plastics, supple leather and aluminum trim encompass much of the surfaces. Compared to other sedans in the market that are equipped with touch screens, the infotainment system is beginning to show its age. However the TFT instrument panel continues to be the centre piece of the interior with its brightly lit display.
The front seats can only be described as comfortably ergonomic. A fact that’s driven further by the comfortable sport seats that are standard in the Drive-e. They provide support in the right places and make long drives forgettable.
In the rear, space is abundant and can easily accommodate three adults without issues. The central transmission tunnel is low enough to be unobtrusive. The car also packs a reasonably large boot at 380 litres.
Like the XC60, the drivetrain upgrade has given the S60 an entirely new personality. It has given the stoic Volvo a sportier side. But being a Volvo, safety is still a priority for the brand. And the car is well equipped with systems like City Safety which can apply the brakes for you in an emergency up to 50kmh.
Although it isn’t marketed outright as a sports sedan, the figures on the spec sheet tell a different story. The S60 is a balanced mix of excitement, safety, comfort and economy.
