Editor's choice: Volvo V40 D2 Voter's choice: Mercedes-Benz GLA 250
Within days of the polls, the three cornered fight became a one on one between Sweden and Germany as the Mercedes-Benz GLA and the Volvo V40 surged ahead of the Citroen DS5. Despite its classy design, we suspect the public weren't quite as smitten with its clunky robotic manual gearbox.
Both the V40 and GLA 250 however are equally matched in design and interior. Both possess a quality built interior with rich materials and supple leather. Where they differed was in the handling department.
But alas with our Editorial team ruling in favour of the Volvo V40 D2, the Swede just managed to edge ahead with 62%. While the V40 D2 doesn't quite handle as well as the GLA 250, we can't deny its meek fuel consumption. And with a focus on Green cars this year, the Swede seemed like a natural choice for us with its staggering 24km/L.
