Editor's choice: Volkswagen Polo Voter's choice: Honda Jazz
Represented by six nominees, this is one of the largest categories in our Car of the Year competition. And efficiency being the buzz word for this year, we're glad to see that all of the nominees here give decent fuel economy figures. But more than that, they offer good power to weight ratio and go kart handling to boot.
It's not hard to find a decent hatchback these days but to find one that offers the tri-factor of power, efficiency and handling is another issue. But in this category we have exactly three that stand out among the other half of the nominees. The Volkswagen Polo, Ford Fiesta and Honda Jazz are all in good standing within our Editorial team. But we found the Polo the better of the three because of its well-balanced handling as opposed to the comfort bias of the Fiesta.
Even with our support, the public chose the Honda Jazz as the winner and it came out on tops with 50 votes more than the Polo. A combination of diehard fans and the versatility of its interior probably won the Jazz this category.
