Many would decry the new X1 as being not a real BMW. After all it's front driven. But hold your horses.
It's built on the same platform that delivered BMW's first MPV, so it's loads more practical than ever before. And the gurus down at BMW haven't forgotten how to make a car handle; the X1 feels plenty great to drive. And it looks more sporty and masculine than it used to.
So really if you're in the market for a car in this class there's little else that can give you the quality, handling and practicality all mashed into a pretty smart looking package.
