It is official! Out of fourteen categories this year, we have thirteen cars who are winners in their own respective categories, from a list of 43 after very careful consideration, and an additional two specially mentioned winners.
But there is one car, which did stand out amongst the rest, which demonstrated the best combination in Design, Build quality, Comfort, Features and Practicality, but of-course everything has to come together in harmony, with sensibility and has to please the senses.
This year's winner for 2017 Car Of the Year is Range Rover Velar 3.0 Si6 HSE R Dynamic.

Best Executive SUV

Range Rover Velar 3.0 Si6 HSE R Dynamic

Design & Quality
Performance
Comfort

Practicality
Overall

A hint of coupe-like styling is certainly refreshing. While the exterior turns heads, the Velar's interior design is such a gem. The display and the user interface on the centre control deserves top marks. Technological advancements like Matrix-laser LED headlights, with laser technology, increases driver visibility by up to 550m. While it is city-chic, the Velar is equally at home away from the road, and even able to wade up to depths of up to 650mm.

Best Compact Executive SUV

Volvo XC60 T6R

Design & Quality
Performance
Comfort
Features
Practicality
Overall

From the new Thor's Hammer headlamp design, to the 9” tablet style infotainment unit, the new XC60 apes its larger XC90 sibling in design language. Dash quality is very high on this one. We love how the quirky Swedes have even dared to include a little Swedish flag, which doubles as an expansion slot as part of the dash design. The added advantage of the height adjustable air suspension means better ground clearance. While it really is a road-biased car, at the back of your mind, you know you can do that little bit more.

Best Compact Premium SUV

Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 TSI R-Line

Design & Quality
Performance
Comfort
Features
Practicality
Overall

The top-of-the-line Tiguan features Golf GTi-rivalling straight-line performance. That turbocharged 2.0 is a gem of an engine, delivering the century sprint in just 6.5 seconds, while driving all four wheels. The car is now much bigger, while body sculpting is more angular. Build quality for the VW actually seems to be closer to some traditional Premium Luxury German brands.

Best Compact SUV

Jeep Renegade Limited 1.4

Design & Quality
Performance

Practicality
Overall

Tradition meets the young (at heart). Known for things much bigger, rougher and bolder, Jeep did something unthinkable, they produced a cheeky-looking SUV, with hints of its past embedded into it, from the front vertical grille with seven slots, partially obscured round headlamps, and a bonnet with a power hump, to rear tail lamps marked with an 'X', giving a hint to jerry cans used by its rugged grand-dad during conflict, the young Renegade does not draw any conflict with its design, but rather a smile from its cheeky styling, and the little Easter Eggs left around the car for you to look for.

Best High Performance SUV

Audi SQ5 3.0 TFSI Qu Tiptronic

Design & Quality
Performance
Comfort
Features
Practicality
Overall

This one does all the Q5 can do, and one thing more. While we may love the build quality and design of the Q5, the V6 3.0 in this one, makes this car an excellent sleeper on the road. You do get all the qualities in an SUV, with the performance and handling of a sports car.

Best Compact Executive Coupe

Infiniti Q60 2.0 T

Design & Quality
Performance
Comfort
Features
Practicality
Overall

With one of the prettiest side profiles we have seen this year, we certainly love the performance of the Q60. Plant the car around a bend, and you will notice that its not all about the looks. The Q60 is a well-balanced car. Equipment levels do not disappoint.

Best Compact Sedan

Audi A3 Sedan 1.0 TFSI S Tronic

Design & Quality
Performance
Comfort
Features
Practicality
Overall

A right-sized 1.0 three cylinder, does not mean sluggish performance. The A3 does boast 200Nm of torque, while the four-ringed badge makes the baby Audi sedan an attractive buy within the compact sedan market.

Best Executive Sedan

BMW 530i M Sport

Design & Quality
Performance
Comfort
Features
Practicality
Overall

Nimble on its feet, we certainly love how the 530i takes to the corners. The M Sport suspension is a must for those who love a good drive.

Best Compact Executive Performance Sedan

Mercedes-Benz AMG C43

Design & Quality
Performance
Comfort
Features
Practicality
Overall

The C43 sedan drives all four wheels, and is powered by a turbocharged 3.0 V6. Body kitting makes this a definite head turner, while the compact C-Class footprint makes this car such an easy car to handle.

Best Executive Performance Car

Porsche Panamera PDK 3.0

Design & Quality
Performance
Comfort
Features
Practicality
Overall

Creamy power delivery from its 3.0 V6, the Panamera's styling is a vast improvement from the previous car. Drive it normally, and you get a plush-riding executive car. Turn on Sports mode, and all the right noises would easily put a smile on your face. The four-seater delivers excellent comfort for driver and passenger alike.

Best Compact Hybrid

Hyundai Ioniq 1.6 GLS Hybrid

Design & Quality
Performance
Comfort
Features
Practicality
Overall

Coupe-like styling, and a frugal fuel sipping power plant. The Ioniq looks good from many angles. The hybrid drive system ensures that you get good fuel economy.

Best Engine & Exhaust Note

Special Mention

Audi RS3 Sedan

A wider track front and rear, plus plenty of kit differentiates this car over a vanilla A3. While we do love the styling and performance of this car, we also absolutely love the soundtrack that this high-octane firecracker is able to bellow!

Industry Trailblazer

Special Mention

BMW/Performance Motors

We would like to recognise the efforts of BMW and Performance Motors for their efforts in working with various agencies and residences to ensure that the much-needed infrastructure is installed for their iPerformance range of cars, and other future vehicles.

Best Compact Cabriolet

Audi A5 Cabriolet

Design & Quality
Performance
Comfort
Features
Practicality
Overall

Excellent fit and finish, and very good boot space for a cabriolet makes this such an easy car to live with. We love how Audi had kept their silver trim around the passenger cabin and also around the windshield, similar to how the Audi 80 was styled years ago. Look at the car from the side, and you can see that plenty of thought has gone into its proportions.

Best High Performance Coupe

Lexus LC500

Design & Quality
Performance
Comfort
Features
Practicality
Overall

Innovative use of carbon fibre materials, together with the satisfying (and hair-standing) howl from a well-tuned exhaust, pumped from a naturally aspirated 5.0 V8. The coupe might come from a company, more in-tune with building silent, whisper-quiet luxury sedans and SUVs, but believe us, that it is right up there with some of the best performance coupes!
