The hugely anticipated rear-driven replacement to the highly sought after Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni and later the regular LP 550-2 has officially arrived on our shores.
Dubbed “Enjoyable Technology” by Lamborghini, they have seen the need to create a fun car and answered with this. Developed from the ground up alongside the all-wheel drive LP 610-4, this version of the Huracan offers drivers what can be described as driving euphoria – a sense of joy and fun that the four-wheel drive version seems to lack by some accounts.
At a media event held at their newly opened satellite showroom in Suntec City, Lamborghini Singapore showcased the 580 PS 5.2l V10 supercar that is designed to set the hearts of driving enthusiasts on fire. It will also set its rear tyres on fire, because power now only goes to the rear; Lamborghini was also very keen to point out that the car was engineered to power oversteer.
This is courtesy of a new weight distribution – 40% front and 60% rear; with bespoke suspension tuning and engine management set up. Steering has also been calibrated specifically for this car; Lamborghini says it offers a more direct feel to the driver. Dry weight has also been reduced to 1,389 kg, which makes it 33 kg less than the LP 610-4.
The exterior of the car has also been restyled slightly, with the most obvious difference being in the front bumper with redesigned intakes that provide a more aggressive look than the sculpted, hexagonal front end of the 610. The rear has also been slightly modified; the difference being purely aesthetic. New 19” Kari rims and bespoke tyres are fitted to the LP 580-2 with 245/35 fronts and 305/35 rears.
Steel brakes are fitted as standard rather than the carbon ceramics found on the more expensive 610 to deal with the reduced power and torque output, which stands at 572 bhp and 540 Nm. 75% of maximum torque is available from just 1,000 rpm, with cylinder deactivation of one side of the V10 bank. The system seamlessly switches from ten to five cylinders to save fuel and reduce emissions while still providing power instantaneously when needed by reactivating the other bank upon throttle input.
The LP 580-2 is also 50% stiffer than the previous LP 550-2 due to the new springs and anti-roll bars on double wishbone suspension with magneto rheological suspension as an option. The Lamborghini Doppia Frizione (LDF) 7-speed double clutch gearbox is carried over from the LP 610-4 as is the ANIMA driving mode switch. ESC is of course reworked to deal with rear driven traction and load distribution.
The Huracan LP 580-2 coupe is now available at Eurosports Auto showrooms priced from $838,000 without COE and options. That said if you don’t go crazy with the options or Ad Personam individualisation programme, you can now have a brand new Lamborghini for less than a million bucks.
