The first of a limited edition series of Alfa Giulietta cars, built to celebrate the launch of the action movie Fast & Furious 6, arrives today (24 May) at Fiat UK’s Motor Village Marylebone dealership in London.
Just six of the Alfa Giulietta 1.4 TB MultiAir 170 bhp FF6 Limited Editions have been commissioned to celebrate Alfa Romeo’s involvement in the high speed, action film franchise starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson. The movie builds on the worldwide success of Fast Five and takes the action and stunts to the streets of London.
The exclusive run of Alfa Giulietta models all feature a Fast & Furious numbered plaque, corresponding to each film in the franchise and include dashboards specially signed by the all-star cast. New owners will also be offered the opportunity to attend a once-in-a-lifetime action day with a stunt coordinator from the movie industry.
“I am excited that we are able to offer these exclusive models which appear in a blockbuster movie,” says Tony Dittli. “The Alfa Giulietta Fast & Furious 6 Limited Edition is a fabulous looking car with a great pedigree and I am sure that, while we have one in the showroom, it will attract more than its fair share of attention.”
The Mégane Renaultsport is widely acclaimed by many as the benchmark hot hatch, but on the off chance it isn’t quite exclusive enough for some, then Renault has the answer with the launch of a new limited edition, the Mégane Renaultsport Red Bull Racing RB8. In fact, exclusivity is virtually guaranteed with a batch of just 30 destined for our shores.
The exclusive Twilight Blue finish takes its inspiration directly from the race team’s famous colours, while Red Bull Racing graphics at the rear and on the sides are further tell-tale hallmarks of this limited edition car. In addition to its sporty credentials, it stands out as particularly elegant, too, thanks to exterior Platinum Grey details which contrast with the striking Twilight Blue paintwork. Last but not least, a monochrome laurel on the rear side windows celebrates the team’s 2012 Constructors’ world title.
Inside, the new limited edition version comes with a number of exclusive features, including Red Bull Racing branding on the numbered aluminium kickplates and carpet mats. The same logo appears on the headrests of the Recaro seats which are trimmed in a new leather/fabric upholstery.
This limited edition version marks the availability of the built-in, connected R-Link multimedia tablet for the Mégane Renaultsport range. The system’s six functions (navigation, telephony, multimedia, vehicle, systems and R-Link Store applications catalogue) are controlled using either the touch screen display, the voice command function or the joystick situated on the centre console.
Along with R-Link, there is now also the 2.0 version of Renaultsport Monitor which fans of sporty driving will particularly appreciate. Owners will no longer need to choose between using the navigation or on-board telemetry systems thanks to the fact that the TomTom Live navigation system is built-in.
The limited edition version packs the same fundamental features as Mégane Renaultsport 265 Cup, including stiffer springs, dampers, anti-roll bar, limited slip differential, grooved discs with Brembo callipers and the potent two-litre-turbocharged 265hp engine with Stop&Start and trademark Renaultsport technologies.

The stunning Onyx Concept Car leads an exciting line-up of performance Peugeot vehicles at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, with its first public dynamic demonstration. More Peugeot vehicles will also be demonstrated dynamically, while on the Peugeot stand attendees can take part in an exciting and refreshing experiential activity with key performance vehicles displayed at this automotive extravaganza, now in its 20th anniversary year.
The Peugeot stand is promising to be an exciting centre-point with a 208 GTi inspired ‘flow rider’ surf experience placed between new RCZ Sports Coupé, 208 GTi, luxurious 208 XY and competition versions of 208 on display. Participation in the ‘Enjoy the Ride’ GTi activity links fun, thrill and agility with control, to experience speed of a different kind, with the chance to ‘ride the waves’ and can be pre-booked ahead of the day itself.
Within the carbon fibre shell sits a mid-mounted 3.7-litre V8 HDi FAP diesel-electric hybrid power unit developed with the expertise of Peugeot Sport and the experience acquired from racetracks the world over. NACA ducts in the double-bubble roofline supply the intake for the diesel V8 to transmit 600bhp to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox.
Intelligent HYbrid4 technology recovers kinetic energy stored in lithium-ion batteries, to be redeployed to enhance acceleration, boosting the power by 80bhp, to give this ‘Concept Car’ less than 2kg per horsepower.
The much-lauded 208 GTi brings a new dimension to the world of the performance (hot) hatchback with a lighter, more powerful, more capable and sure-footed pocket-rocket performer. Propelled by a 200bhp THP petrol engine, the 208 GTi is a stylish, well-specified, no-compromise performance hatchback with wider tracks, distinctive and exquisite attention to detail features. Being lighter than its predecessor it is capable of reaching 62mph in 6.8 seconds, can top 143mph, has CO2 at just 139g/km and yet can achieve 47.9mpg.
Aston Martin is celebrating its centenary in world-class style with the debut today of the exceptional CC100 Speedster Concept.
Created as a stunning celebration of the great British brand’s 100 years of sports car excellence the one-off CC100 looks both to the past and the DBR1 – Aston Martin’s greatest sporting triumph on the track – and to the future with its teasing glimpses of potential future design direction.
The 6.0-litre V12-powered concept car today makes its world debut by completing a lap of the famous Nordschleife at Germany’s ADAC Zurich 24 Hours of Nürburgring race. It is lapping the circuit together with the 1000km race-winning 1959 DBR1 with British racing legend Sir Stirling Moss at the wheel. It is the most tangible expression yet of the brand’s year-long 2013 centenary celebrations.
Viewed by tens of thousands of lucky spectators in Germany, the radical speedster is being driven today by Aston Martin CEO Dr Ulrich Bez. He said: “CC100 is the epitome of everything that is great about Aston Martin. It represents our fantastic sporting heritage, our exceptional design capability, our superb engineering know-how and, above all, our adventurous spirit!
“I have nicknamed it ‘DBR100’ because of its affinity to the great 1959 race-winning cars and, of course, our 100-year anniversary in 2013.
“But this car is more, even, than a simple ‘birthday present’ to ourselves: it shows that the soul of Aston Martin – the thing that differentiates us from all the other car makers out there – is as powerful as ever and I very much hope that everyone who catches a glimpse of it at the Nürburgring today enjoys seeing it.”

The Nürburgring racetrack in Germany is officially up for sale this week. The sale of the 12.8-mile, 154-turn track includes the salaries of 300 employees, but not the $515-million debt that caused the 'Ring's bankruptcy.
We reported last July that the track would go through bankruptcy managed by the German government. A public bailout was proposed later that month, but was then blocked by the European Commission.
The track is owned by the German government, which says the new owner would have to agree to allow access to the public, though it's unclear whether that means driving or just spectating.
The 86-year-old track hosts a handful of race series and driving events during the year, including the Mercedes AMG school, German touring cars, vintage races, Formula One, endurance series and more. We assume most of that would continue under a new owner. The course generates an income of about $80 million per year. Obviously, automakers also spend plenty of time there, tuning high-horsepower and sports cars.
Interested parties must raise their hands by June 12; estimates for the sale price are near $170 million

The thundering new C 63 AMG Edition 507 will be available in the UK from July as a Saloon, Estate and Coupe packing an extra 50 hp and 10 Nm of torque over the standard Mercedes C 63 AMG models.
The extra horsepower and torque allows the Edition 507 to reach 62 mph in just 4.2 seconds (4.3 seconds for the Estate) and thanks to the AMG Drivers Package, which derestricts the top speed, powers on up to an electronically limited top speed of 280 km/ h.
The C 63 AMG Edition 507 also has greater style to match the substance. It is instantly recognisable thanks to 19” AMG Cross-Spoke alloy wheels with a Titanium finish, a high performance composite brake system with red brake callipers and an AMG bonnet with power domes and air outlets finished in a high black gloss borrowed from the mighty C 63 AMG Black Series Coupe.
The high gloss black exterior mirrors, radiator grille and front apron complete the exterior finish along with an AMG Sports Stripe in matt graphite grey which is featured on the side of the car. The Saloon also features an AMG boot lid spoiler.
Exclusivity is not only for the outside of the car. On the inside the Edition 507 features designo Black Leather as standard or customers can choose between the optional designo Porcelain Leather with Black Dinamica and contrast stitching or the designo Black Leather with Black Dinamica as a no cost option.
The AMG Performance Steering Wheel is also fitted as standard and is complemented by Edition 507 badging on the dash and AMG high black gloss trim while the door panels and the emblem embossed gearshift lever are finished in Dinamica and the AMG instrument cluster features red accents.
On top of all the exclusive styling and enhanced performance the addition of the AMG Drivers Package not only gives the driver an increased top speed of 174 mph, but also includes attendance at an AMG BASIC Training Power and Passion Event so the driver can learn how to get the most out of their own car.
The one and a half day course is held at one of five renowned racetracks in Germany, Bilster Berg Race Resort, Nurburgring GP, Hockenheimring, Sachsenring or Lausitzring and covers a theoretical and practical introduction into handing of the customer’s own C 63 AMG Edition 507 Saloon, Estate or Coupe at high speeds.
Hotel accommodation, catering, a Driver’s Dinner and technical support are all included. Customers just have to cover the cost of getting to the circuit and any extra insurance costs required for track use. Should customers not want to use their own car they can hire a car from AMG for a fee.

With the three engineering priorities "Intelligent Drive", "Efficient Technology" and "Essence of Luxury", the new S-Class extends the boundaries of technology on many levels. The S-Class is not just a technological spearhead for Mercedes-Benz but for automotive development as a whole.
As with every generation before it, customers expect the new S-Class to set standards across the board to retain its accolade as "the best automobile in the world". Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars:
"Rather than being about safety or aesthetics, power or efficiency, comfort or dynamism, our aspirations were 'the best or nothing' in every respect. No other car stands for the Mercedes-Benz brand promise more than the S-Class."
Perfection to the last detail results in "The Essence of Luxury". This pursuit of the best is particularly noticeable in the interior: whether it is the seats or the air conditioning, the controls or the design, the infotainment or the comfort and safety in the rear – new ideas, their painstaking realisation, and highest perceived quality underpin the high standards that the engineers have set for the Mercedes-Benz flagship model – and for themselves.
The same applies to safety. What started with PRE-SAFE® ten years ago and continued with DISTRONIC PLUS has now resulted in a new dimension of motoring: comfort and safety are merged into one. Mercedes-Benz refers to this as "Intelligent Drive". A whole host of new systems makes the new S-Class even more comfortable and even safer.
The S-Class is so efficient that it almost sounds utopian: within ten years Mercedes-Benz, by realising"Efficient Technology", has improved fuel consumption in the 150 kW output category to 64.2 mpg, for example, while the drag coefficient of the new S-Class (cd=0.24) clearly undercuts the previous model's figure and sets a new benchmark in this segment. The S 300 BlueTEC HYBRID is set to go even lower still with a cd figure of 0.23 thanks to additional aerodynamic optimisation measures. Furthermore, the new model is the world's first car to dispense entirely with light bulbs in favour of LEDs, pointing the way ahead once again.

"The 50th Anniversary Grand Tour, with more than 700 participants representing 29 countries, is evidence of the global dimension our brand enjoys today, and the strength of the Lamborghini myth that continues to grow.” The Grand Tour concluded on 11th May in Sant'Agata Bolognese, headquarters of the House of the Raging Bull, where a gala dinner celebrating the Lamborghini 50th Anniversary was held.

Peugeot has today released first images of the New 308, a car launched to revitalise the brand’s position in the ultra-competitive, compact family hatchback segment.
“The new Peugeot 308 has a pure and technological exterior design that speaks of high strength and high quality,” says Gilles Vidal, Design Director, Peugeot.
With its compact length of 4.25 metres and well-balanced proportions, the New Peugeot 308 projects a classy and sophisticated presence. The front is dominated by an evolutionary reinterpretation of the brand’s ‘floating’ front grille, and by the strong lighting signature. Slim full-LED headlamps are standard on the majority of trim levels and a world-first in the segment. The high quality of design continues at the rear, with the three Peugeot (lion) ‘claws’ drawn by the rear LED lamps.
The highlight of the New 308’s generously spaced cabin is the 9.7-inch touch-screen interface, which removes much of the need for physical buttons and switches. Setting a new size standard for the class, it brings together many of the infotainment controls in one place, for ease of use and to create a contemporary and uncluttered cabin.
Breakthrough engineering has allowed many of the vehicle’s major units to be reduced in size – also cutting overall weight – leading to significant reductions in CO2 emissions. As a result, this new Peugeot 308 establishes an environmental benchmark, with one model offering CO2 emissions as low as 85g/km.
The New Peugeot 308 will make its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show on 10th September 2013, when more information about this innovative new model will be released. Sales will start shortly afterwards in mainland Europe and from January 2014 in the UK.

Having reshaped a big piece of the world's economy around its Windows software, Microsoft Corp. now wants to do the same thing in the car business.
Microsoft is part of a wave of computer industry titans -- with Apple, BlackBerry, Google and others -- competing to play a more critical role in cars. The prize, as they see it, is the expanding and highly profitable part of the car that is evolving as an operating system.
Today that business is largely confined to vehicle infotainment systems, which allow drivers to speak by phone, hear traffic conditions, receive e-mails and find restaurants. But in Microsoft's vision of the future, vehicle intelligence will get more sophisticated.
As smartphones, information apps and other consumer devices perform more ambitious functions, software providers will take a bigger role in vehicle development. And when that happens, software companies will begin to influence other component decisions, including steering, seating and interior cabin functions.
Software companies see another potential line of automotive business. When cars have a single, unified operating system somebody will have the opportunity to regularly update the vehicle systems -- ideally for a fee -- in the same way that computer industry firms now update phone apps and software programs.
Microsoft wants to pull the auto industry in this direction. And with revenues of $74 billion and net profits of $17 billion for the fiscal year ended last June 30, Microsoft is a cash-rich force to be reckoned with.
It has been promoting Windows to automakers for a decade now. Ford Motor Co., Fiat Group and Kia Motors Co. rely on Microsoft platforms to coordinate functions such as radio and music storage, e-mail delivery, navigation and personal schedule updating.
Microsoft helped to develop Ford's popular Sync hands-free communications system, which is spreading across Ford's portfolio, as well as Fiat's Blue & Me system.
But Microsoft's automotive engineers and designers say that they are just warming up, and that their future product offerings will help cars move into a new era of smart technology.Related Article: US kia to sport advance infotainment system powered by Microsoft UVO By: Lindsay Chappell, Automotive News
TORRANCE, Calif., May 6, 2013 – RAV4 sales have increased since the new model began rolling into Toyota dealerships in January. In February, its first full month in showrooms, RAV4 sales increased nearly 10 percent over the same period last year with the new model making up 65 percent of all RAV4 sales. “When developing the new RAV4 we spent a lot of time talking to consumers to understand what they wanted and needed in a small SUV,” said Bill Fay, group vice president and general manager, Toyota Division. “We have met those needs and now, since its launch, the new RAV4 is one of the fastest selling vehicles in the Toyota line up.”
Early dealer reports have found buyers of the new RAV4 have been particularly attracted to its dynamic exterior design, perceiving it as contemporary and very stylish. Buyers have also been impressed with the many in-cabin features like the available Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, calling the new RAV4 technologically advanced. The new RAV4 offers great value through balanced performance and capability, including improved fuel efficiency, increased cargo capacity, a dynamic design, eight standard airbags and a compelling array of standard features. Among the many technologies and convenience features early buyers have been drawn to include standard Display Audio with a 6.1-inch touchscreen and an integrated backup camera, Eco and Sport modes and 60/40 split-folding and reclining rear seats. The all-new 2014 model year Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive makes its world debut at the New York International Auto Show. The Electric Drive shows off a dynamic design, high-quality interior and a high-torque electric motor for completely emission-free driving. This makes for a lively drive with an estimated range of around 115 miles (200 km). The 2014 B-Class Electric Drive surprises with a particularly dynamic driving experience, delivering decidedly brisk acceleration while gliding along the road in near perfect silence. The driver and passengers in this new electric Mercedes will enjoy the familiar comfort of a well designed, high-quality interior offering generous space. Quiet and locally emission-free drive power is provided by an electric motor with more than 134 hp (100 kW). Typically for an electric drive, the maximum torque of 310 Nm, is available right from the first tap on the accelerator pedal – this roughly corresponds to the torque delivery of a modern gasoline engine with a displacement of 3.0 liters. This results in decidedly powerful acceleration from a standing start. For the standard sprint from 0 to 60 mph (100 km/h), the electric-powered B-Class requires less than ten seconds.
The maximum speed is electronically limited to 100 mph (160 km/h) - in the interests of operating range. The range is around 115 miles (200 kilometers), according to the respective driving cycle. This means that in addition to emission-free urban driving and short-range trips, longer journeys can also be undertaken without any problems, such as the distances covered on a daily basis by commuters. The interior underscores the high comfort standards of Mercedes-Benz. High- quality materials and finely structured surfaces, premium details, and precise finishing, emphasize the fact that electric driving is defined at a very high level according to the philosophy of Mercedes-Benz. When it comes to information and communication systems, the B-Class Electric Drive offers convenience and outstanding functionality that is signature luxury typical of Mercedes-Benz. Standard onboard features include the Audio 20 with a 14.7 cm color screen, a twin tuner, an MP3-capable CD player and a USB connection. Navigation is provided by the Becker® MAP PILOT. The multimedia system COMAND Online with internet access, navigation and voice control is available as an optional extra. Functions specific to electric vehicles have been added to the instrumentation of the B-Class Electric Drive. A power display in the dial instrument has been added on the right. Its pointer rises in a clockwise direction from the green to the red area when power is being consumed, and drops below the zero line when the vehicle is feeding recuperative energy back into the battery.

When it comes to road safety, a flat tire is one of the worst situations to be caught in when driving. That’s because most flat tires happen spontaneously, causing the driver to swerve off the road, pull over on the shoulder, or worse collide into another vehicle.
But with the launch of the latest non-pneumatic tires by Polaris, the days of flat tires may be well over.
As early as next year, consumers may have access to an airless, military-inspired tire that will evade the chance of any flats whatsoever. With an innovative web-like design made of a proprietary plastic, drivers will no longer have to face unsafe road conditions when it comes to dealing with a blown tire.
Long gone will be the days of flat tires.
“The tire works very similar to a bicycle wheel, where the load is carried in tension across the top of the wheel,” says Polaris spokesperson Jason Difuccia. “The bottom of the wheel is designed to give in to obstacles like rocks, curbs, and other terrain.”
The good news is that daily drivers can look forward to a smooth ride thanks to its shock-absorbing tread and springy mesh-like design. As for its official launch and price point, Polaris hasn’t yet released information.

Road Safety: Do what you can, with what you have, where you are
Because of inherent human error, car technology will never fully keep our roadways accident-free. That’s why it’s never been more important to stay safe the old-fashioned way with common sense and a conservative approach to the way you drive. The old saying rings true: do what you can, with what you have, where you are. Until the latest and greatest tires are released for consumer use, here’s what you can do to stay safe.
The penny test is an easy way to see whether your tires need replacing. Turn a penny on Lincoln’s head – if the tread touches Lincoln’s head, you’re in the clear. If the tread falls short, you need to replace your tires.
Not only is tire pressure important for gas consumption, but it’s also essential for tire safety. An overly inflated tire can lead to bald spots that can blow the tire. On the other hand, a tire with insufficient pressure can cause your vehicle to handle poorly – an especially hazardous situation in inclement weather. Check your tire pressure requirements and make sure to keep them appropriately filled. If you are unsure, have them checked at a professional car service station.
Front and rear tires wear differently – that’s why it’s important to regularly rotate them to ensure even wear. When tires are too worn, blowouts can be common, leading to car accidents and unsafe road conditions. Check your owner’s manual to find out how often you should rotate your tires or check with a car service station.

Lexus debuts the third-generation 2014 IS sport sedan, with a bold design highlighted by the new dynamic signature spindle grille and for the first time separated LED Daytime Running Lights. A combination of “aggressive elegance,” a more powerful road presence and a stronger brand identity help make the new IS models more alluring than ever. Thanks in large part to substantially increased overall body rigidity, the 2014 Lexus IS provides a more dynamic driving experience with enhanced stability and body control while delivering improved ride comfort. New, laser-screw welding and adhesive body-bonding techniques, along with additional spot welding, have made the higher rigidity possible. An all-new multilink rear suspension, revised front suspension and steering derived from the well-received GS sedan are adopted in the smaller IS package. Two IS models are available for 2014. The IS 250 is powered by a smooth 2.5- liter V6 providing 204 hp @ 6,400rpm and 185 lb.-ft. torque @ 4,800rpm. The engine is matched to a six-speed Electronically Controlled Transmission (ECT) that features a sequential manual-shifting mode with rev matched downshifts in SPORT mode.
The even more exciting IS 350 gets a 3.5-liter V6 with D4-S direct and port fuel injection. The 3.5 engine produces 306 hp @ 6,400rpm, 277 lb.-ft. torque @ 4,800rpm. The IS 350 inherits the eight-speed, Sport Direct Shift (SPDS) automatic transmission from the IS F high-performance model. This transmission features paddle shifters and the G-force Artificial Intelligence (G-AI) system, which automatically selects the optimum gear and downshift pattern in response to G force. Available for both IS models, an electronically controlled all-weather drive system is designed to help enhance traction and grip under all driving conditions by automatically varying front-to-rear torque balance from 50:50 to as much as 30:70. A new Drive Mode Select system features up to five driving modes. The IS 250 and IS 350 feature ECO, NORMAL, and SPORT modes. The IS 350 F SPORT features four drive modes: ECO, NORMAL, SPORT S, and SPORT S+. These drive modes are tailored to meet the driver’s preferred combination of economy, comfort, performance and handling characteristics. In addition, AWD models also feature a SNOW mode. The available F SPORT package includes unique 18-inch wheels and special suspension tuning, unique interior and exterior design. It is available for IS 250 and IS 350 RWD and AWD models. The Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) featured on IS 350 F SPORT allows the driver to fine tune the IS FSPORT’s ride characteristics with a choice of two settings; Normal, for everyday driving comfort, and SPORT S or SPORT S+ mode, for optimized body control and agility. Exclusive for all IS 350 models and IS 250 F SPORT, is an intake sound generator that creates a more sporting engine note. The Lexus LFA supercar provided design inspiration for the driver-focused Lexus IS cockpit. F SPORT models inherit the innovative TFT instrumentation with moving center ring from the LFA. The driver can appreciate improved seating position and headroom, while the rear seat offers significantly improved roominess, ingress , and egress. Separating the shocks from the springs results in a larger trunk, as well. New luxuries abound in the 2014 Lexus IS. A high-efficiency dual-zone climate control system uses new, touch-sensitive electrostatic temperature switches. The IS offers two multimedia systems. A standard high-resolution Lexus Display Audio (LDA) with controller or the optional Lexus navigation system. The navigation system is operated via a second-generation Lexus Remote Touch Interface (RTI) multi-function control device, which also allows control of the climate, audio, phone controls and more. The available Mark Levinson® Premium Surround System employs new loudspeaker technology with 15 speakers and 835 watts, for even more life-like sound reproduction. Ten Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) airbags are standard. The IS models employ the innovative Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system, which integrates Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Traction Control (TRAC) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) active safety systems with the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) or, where fitted (for IS 350 F SPORT), Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS).
