Esso service stations in Singapore will be launching an improved petrol formulation with increased additive to help improve engine performance. While Synergy continues to be the family name for our fuels products, the new petrol will come with new grade names to help customers better differentiate the fuel offerings.
Syn 2000 will now be called Synergy Regular, Syn 5000 will be called Synergy Extra and Syn 8000 will be called Synergy Supreme+, to show how the petrol helps give a deeper engine clean, and improve engine performance and responsiveness.
Motorists in Singapore will be the first in the world to enjoy Esso’s improved petrol formulation. As part of our ongoing efforts to offer our customers a better station experience, we have also upgraded the design of Esso stations in Singapore.

Lamborghini Singapore’s second home at Suntec City Singapore was officially opened by Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini at a media event today. Its lightweight, electrohydraulic soft top gives the new Lamborghini a distinctive presence with roof both open and closed, and maximum comfort for driver and passenger with uncompromising handling and performance.
The naturally aspirated 5.2l V10 engine produces 449 kW / 610 hp. The new Huracán LP 610-4 Spyder accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.4 seconds, with a top speed of 324 km/h (201 mph). The Spyder also includes new technical features of the 2016 model year Huracán family, including ‘cylinder on demand’ in combination with ‘stop start’, and a new electronically controlled all-wheel drive set-up for improved driving behavior.
Reservations for the Huracán Spyder can be placed with Lamborghini Singapore, the authorized dealer in Singapore. Delivery of the pre-booked units is scheduled to start in June 2016.

Hyundai Motor has revealed the first rendering of its new range-topping G90 luxury sedan, which is named EQ900 in Korea. The elegantly designed, technology packed G90 hints at the recently-launched Genesis brand’s design identity and future direction.
As the Genesis brand’s flagship model, G90 is a blueprint for change and innovation that will distinguish the Genesis brand. Majoring on “human-centered” technology combined with engaging driving dynamics, G90 boasts a raft of world-best safety features and technological innovations to set itself apart in the luxury market.
G90 also showcases the Genesis brand’s hallmark design style ‘Athletic Elegance’, interpreted by the newly-formed Prestige Design Division to bring graceful and profound elegance to G90’s significant proportions. Crowned by the Genesis emblem, the grand radiator grille combined with sophisticated headlamps communicates the car’s dynamic, future-orientated character. A theme that flows along a body-length character line to the long and agile rear lamp cluster completes the Athletic Elegance of G90.

FIAT has unveiled the all-new FIAT Fullback pick-up truck at the 2015 Dubai International Motor Show. The new, medium-duty pick-up will join the award-winning FIAT Professional range in mid-2016 and will be available only with a practical double cab body style configuration making it an ideal vehicle for both commercial and leisure time activities.
Measuring up to 1,780mm in height, 1,815 mm in width and 5,285mm in length, with a wheelbase of 3,000mm, the new FIAT Fullback will offer a competitive payload and will be powered by a 2.4-litre, aluminium, turbo-diesel engine with a power output of either 150hp or 180hp. Two transmissions will be available, a new six-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed automatic transmission with sports mode, and both will be combined with full four-wheel drive systems.
The new FIAT Fullback will be available in two trim levels with pricing and specifications to be announced closer to the vehicle’s launch in mid-2016.
Visitors to the 2015 Dubai International Motor Show will also be able to see the FIAT Fullback equipped with a selection of special accessories currently under development by Mopar, FIAT Chrysler Automobiles’ brand for after-sales service, customer care, genuine spare parts and accessories.
The 16MY Bentley Continental GT Speed has been taken to its top speed of 206 mph (331km/h) by Australian racing legend, john Bowe, on the derestricted Stuart Highway deep in the Northern territory.
The 635 PS (626bhp), 820 Nm W12-powered GT Speed Grand Tourer reached Vmax in just 76 seconds, covering a distance of 9.4km in the process. At top speed, the 6-litre twin-turbo Grand Tourer was covering a staggering 92 meter (or one football pitch) per second.
The Stuart Highway covers a distance of 2,834 km from Darwin in the Northern Territory to Port Augusta, South Australia – approximately the same distance as London to Istanbul or New York to Denver. In October 2013 the local government announced a trial period reverting to an open speed limit on the 200-km stretch between Alice Springs and Barrow Creek.
At Vmax the 16MY Bentley Continental GT Speed is circulating 216 liters of coolant through its engine and radiator each second; and using 80% of its engine power just to overcome aerodynamics loads.
A six-time Australian touring car and two-time Bathurst 1,000 champion, john Bowe was the perfect choice of driver for Bentley’s high-speed run in the ‘Red Centre’. He is also familiar with the Continental as he currently races a GT3 Down Under with Flying B Racing.

Created for a new generation of discerning consumers, Genesis will be a stand-alone brand that operates alongside the company’s popular Hyundai marque. Capitalizing on its success in the fast-growing global car market, Hyundai Motor will launch six new Genesis models by 2020 and will compete with the world’s most renowned luxury car brands.
The Genesis brand seeks to create a new definition of luxury, one that will provide a new platform for future mobility centered on people. Genesis models will boast outstanding driving dynamics and design, with innovations tailored to closely-meet the needs of customers. The new model line-up will distance itself from the traditional technological overload of brand-focused competitors, concentrating instead on a personalized, hassle-free customer experience. To elevate and differentiate the Genesis brand from Hyundai, a distinct design identity, emblem, naming structure and customer service offering is being established. Genesis models will be badged with a new wing-type emblem, redesigned from the version used on the current Genesis model to create an even more luxurious look. This emblem firmly cements the Genesis models as a collective family of luxury models under the Genesis nameplate.
The Genesis brand will also adopt a new alphanumeric naming structure. Future models will be named by combining the letter ‘G’ for Genesis with a number, 90, 80 or 70 etc., representing the segment.
The name ‘Genesis’, which also means new beginnings, hints at the new values and standards that the brand will bring to the global luxury car market. Initially on sale in the Korean, Chinese, North American and Middle Eastern luxury car markets, the Genesis brand will expand its reach to Europe and other parts of Asia as the model range grows to full strength.
Setting the brand’s cars apart from competitors, innovation will begin with the consumer, with customer requirements directing development. This philosophy echoes the vision of Hyundai Motor to be a ‘lifetime partner in automobiles and beyond’, with the ‘Modern Premium’ brand direction of Hyundai reinterpreted for the new Genesis marque.
Volvo Cars is enhancing the performance of its award-winning XC90 with a series of Polestar-developed upgrades. This is the first time that Polestar, Volvo’s performance brand, has focussed its attention on the new seven-seat SUV.
Known as Polestar Performance Optimisation, the upgrades improve the power and torque figures of both the D5 diesel and T6 petrol Drive-E engines, particularly at medium revs where it’s most effective. They also make the accelerator responses even quicker, and alter the settings of the automatic gearbox to provide faster gear changes and prevent gearshifts during rapid cornering, which could unsettle the car. These quicker and more precise responses to driver commands not only make the driving experience more dynamic, they ensure the car responds predictably during high-speed driving.
The upgrades have been developed and designed by the engineers of Polestar and the racing drivers of Polestar Cyan Racing, the official motorsport partner to Polestar. The maximum output of the D5 Drive-E engine is increased to 233 hp and 500 Nm of torque (up from 225 hp and 470 Nm), while the T6 Drive-E is boosted to 334 hp and 440 Nm (from 320 hp and 400 Nm).
Polestar Performance Optimisations have also been released for the D4 diesel and T5 petrol Drive-E engines in other Volvo models. Like the upgrades to the D5 and T6 engines in the XC90, the aim is to boost medium-rev performance and to make the car’s entire drivetrain react more quickly and accurately to driver commands.
With the Polestar Performance Optimisation, the D4 Drive-E offers 200 hp and 440 Nm (up from 190 hp and 400 Nm), while the output of the T5 Drive-E is raised to 253 hp and 400 Nm (from 245 hp and 350 Nm).
The D4 Drive-E upgrades will be available in the S60, V40, V40 Cross Country, V60 and XC60, and the T5 Drive-E enhancements are offered in the V40 and V40 Cross Country.

The all-new HR-V and Jazz are the latest models in Honda’s line-up to receive the maximum safety rating by independent safety organisation Euro NCAP. Under the new testing regulations for 2015, both models achieved a full 5-star rating reflecting Honda’s commitment to overall vehicle safety.
The 5-star result for Jazz means it is only the second supermini to achieve a 5-star rating so far this year. Both Jazz and HR-V feature Honda’s City-Brake Active system (CTBA) fitted as standard across the range. By using laser technology, the CTBA system scans the road ahead and automatically applies the brakes if a low speed collision is likely.
The mid and high grades on both models feature Honda’s ‘Advanced Driver Assist System’ (ADAS), a suite of active-safety technologies including: Forward Collision Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition System, Intelligent Speed Limiter, Lane Departure Warning and High-beam Support System.
The all-new Jazz and new HR-V join the existing 5-star rated in Honda’s line-up including the Swindon produced Civic and CR-V.
The Euro NCAP rating scheme focuses on the vehicle’s overall safety performance which gives consumers an easy to understand single score. The rating considers various aspects of vehicle safety such as occupant protection, child protection, pedestrian protection with the availability and effectiveness of driver aids.
The 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas sees the debut of two design concepts based on the all-new Mazda MX-5. The MX-5 Spyder and MX-5 Speedster concepts take the MX-5’s lightweight fun-to-drive roadster doctrine a step further, reducing even more weight while accentuating open-air driving.
Designers drew inspiration from vintage roadsters. The MX-5 Spyder features a bikini top, Mercury Silver exterior, carbon fiber aero kit, grille intake, lightweight 17-inch Yokohama ADVAN Racing RS II wheels and a Spinneybeck PRIMA natural full-grain leather interior. The MX-5 Speedster, meanwhile, pares the roadster back to the bare essentials – it even has a deflector in place of the windscreen – for an old school wind-in-the-hair sports car experience. Mazda took its weight-cutting passion to extremes with for example carbon fibre doors and seats as well as custom 16-inch RAYS 57 Extreme Gram Lights wheels. The Speedster tips the scales at only 943kg, and is also 30mm lower than the production MX-5 thanks to an adjustable coil over suspension.
The MX-5 Spyder and MX-5 Speedster are on display at Mazda’s stand in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Centre. The SEMA Show is an annual trade event for automobile aftermarket specialty products organized by the Specialty Equipment Market Association. The 2015 event runs until the 6th November.

The GS Trophy Southeast Asia Qualifier 2015, held at Enduro Park Thailand from 30 October to 1 November 2015, marks a sweet victory for Singapore representative Mr. Tommy Lee, along with his future team-mates; Mr. Peerapat Woratham (Thailand) and Mr. Mohd Faizal Sukree (Malaysia) who will be joining forces to take on the upcoming GS Trophy 2016 tournament in Chiang Mai.
Held in Thailand for the first time, GS Trophy Southeast Asia Qualifier 2015 is a qualifying round in which one winner from Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia, comes together as a team of three to represent Southeast Asia. The team will then battle early next year against 18 competing teams from other regions around the world, including the first female team, at the International GS Trophy 2016.
Skills, teamwork and strategy to successfully complete the mission at hand are essential in the GS Trophy tournament. Honorable judges will include eminent persons from the off-road tournament such as Tomm Wolf, an icon of GS Trophy.

Celebrating the model’s 5th anniversary – and its market-leading sales of over 700,000 – Nissan and a British paper artist have collaborated on a unique project to create a full-scale Origami Juke.
In a nod to Nissan’s Japanese heritage and inspired by the very first steps of car design – getting ideas onto paper – artist Owen Gildersleeve hand built the intricate replica model from paper to the exact dimensions of the current Juke. Owen took more than 200 hours and folded more than 2,000 pieces of paper to create the detailed sculpture.
The Origami Juke features the same bold design cues – such as the wheel fenders, lights and grille – that give the real-life model its distinctive character.
The Nissan Juke’s bold, standout styling has been a key factor in the model’s success. Nissan created a brand new ‘compact crossover’ sector with the launch of the car, offering motorists something completely different, in terms of design, to any other vehicle on the road.
The Juke, which is built in Nissan’s plant in Sunderland, reaches its fifth birthday this year. Since first deliveries began in October 2010, more than 150,000 Juke models have been sold in the UK alone, with over 700,000 total sales across Europe, making it the continent’s best-selling compact crossover.
The Juke’s longer-term future in Britain was recently secured when Nissan confirmed that the Sunderland plant would produce the next-generation Juke benefiting from a further £100 million investment in the Sunderland facility and securing the plant into 2020.

Luxury British sports car brand Aston Martin extended its presence in Singapore with the opening of an impressive new showroom and aftersales facility on 30 October 2015.
The development of the luxurious new facility by dealer partner Wearnes Automotive, appointed by Aston Martin on 31 August 2015, significantly strengthens the brand’s presence in Singapore.
To mark the occasion, and on the eve of the Singapore premiere of the new James Bond film Spectre, the bespoke Aston Martin DB10 was unveiled for the first time in Singapore by Dan Balmer, Head of Global Marketing for Aston Martin, and Andre Roy, Chief Executive Officer, Wearnes Automotive.
The first production Detroit Electric SP:01, the lightest and fastest two-seat pure-electric sports car in the world, has rolled off the line at the company’s Leamington Spa manufacturing facility. The new SP:01 is destined for one of Detroit Electric’s export markets to be delivered to the EV Company’s first customer.
The lightweight SP:01, which goes on sale in Asia and Europe over the coming weeks, combines a carbon fibre body with an aluminium chassis. It has a class-leading power to weight ratio and promises blistering acceleration, reaching 60mph from standstill in just 3.7 seconds (0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds) and sprinting to an impressive top speed of 155mph (249km/h). Featuring a 285HP / 210kW electric motor, the car is fitted with a single-speed automatic transmission as standard, with the option of twin-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmissions.
The battery in the SP:01 has been integrated into the chassis as a stressed member, adding stiffness to enhance handling and safety. The battery is the most energy-dense automotive battery pack in the world, offering over 140Wh/kg, benefitting range while keeping overall vehicle weight low.
Every Detroit Electric comes with built-in bi-directional charge and discharge capability. Made possible through the patented Detroit Electric home charging and power back-up unit – named ‘360-Powerback’ –the unit turns the vehicle into a power source for both the grid and the home. An advanced Battery Management System (BMS) gathers data about the car’s battery health and on-board telematics communicate it directly to the factory.
The SP:01 comes equipped with an app-based system called ‘SAMI’ (Smartphone Application Managed Infotainment), which utilises Android technology and is fully compatible with Android Auto, providing safe access to a host of apps and internet functionality. SAMI allows users to search for nearby roadside charge points and then pre-book charging time, as well as review billing and credit information relating to their charge-point use.
When away from the SP:01, owners can use SAMI as a remote control unit via GSM, enabling them to locate the vehicle, turn on the climate control system and check the charge status. When in the car, the SAMI-enabled smartphone is installed in the centre console and becomes the interface for a wide range of functions, including music player, satellite navigation, regenerative braking adjustment, interior lighting and vehicle systems status – such as the level of battery charge, range to recharge and other telemetry.
Detroit Electric has established distributors throughout Europe and Asia extending from the North (Iceland and Norway) and the East (Azerbaijan, South Korea, China and Hong Kong) to the South (South Africa), with additional countries due to join the growing global network over the coming months.

Mazda Motor Corporation unveiled the Mazda RX-VISION today at the Tokyo Motor Show. The sports car concept is powered by a next-generation SKYACTIV-R rotary engine, the unconventional technology that is perhaps the most compelling symbol of the carmaker’s challenger spirit.
An exquisitely proportioned front-engine, rear-wheel drive model, the RX-VISION represents a “vision” of the future that could only come from Mazda. And one that countless fans of the brand around the world hope will become a reality.
Rotary engines are unique in that they generate power through the rotational motion of triangular rotors (unlike the reciprocating pistons in conventional automotive engines). Overcoming numerous technical difficulties, Mazda succeeded in commercialising rotary power, first in the Mazda Cosmo Sport 110S in 1967 and then in several other models. The most successful of these was the Mazda RX-7, the most-sold rotary car ever with more than 800,000 produced between 1978 and 2002.
Continually striving to improve output, fuel economy and durability, Mazda was the only company to ever win the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a rotary-powered race car, a feat it managed in 1991 in the Mazda 787B.
Although not currently mass-producing any rotary models, Mazda never ceased its R&D activities. The carmaker chose the SKYACTIV-R label for the next-generation rotary engine to express its determination to continue delivering its customers convention-defying technology and an uncompromising SKYACTIV experience behind the wheel.

The 500,000 Skoda Yeti has rolled off the Skoda production line in Kvasiny. The milestone vehicle – a Yeti Monte Carlo in Corrida Red – was photographed with production line employees as it completed its journey through the plant.
The Czech car manufacturer celebrated its premiere in the SUV segment in 2009 with the ŠKODA Yeti. The Yeti quickly became one of the most successful vehicles in its class.
In 2013, the Skoda Yeti was completely redesigned, and has since been available in two individual design versions: the smart Skoda Yeti for the city, and the adventurous Skoda Yeti for the great outdoors. Both versions of the Skoda Yeti score with expressive designs, fresh interiors, attractive 'Simply Clever' ideas, highest functionality and enhanced engine/gearbox combinations.
Both versions of the Yeti are available with front- and all-wheel drive. The modern 4x4 version as outstanding off-road characteristics, offering maximum all-wheel functionality in combination with the Yeti’s proven qualities. The Skoda Yeti Monte Carlo has been available since 2014, extending the Yeti range with a sporty version.
In addition to the production in Kvasiny, the Skoda Yeti runs off the production lines in China and Russia. In China, the Yeti is produced locally at the Shanghai Volkswagen plant as an extended version for the Chinese market. In Russia, production of the compact SUV is carried out in corporation with the Russian manufacturer GAZ Group at the Nizhniy Novgorod plant.
Kvasiny is one of Skoda’s three production plants in the Czech Republic. In addition to the Skoda Yeti, the Skoda Superb and Superb Combi models currently run off the assembly lines here. In 2014, 166,200 Skoda vehicles were produced at Kvasiny.
Around 4,500 employees are currently employed here, making it one of the largest industrial employers in the Hradec Králové region. The automobile factory was founded some 81 years ago, and Skoda cars have been manufactured there since 1947.
The Kvasiny plant is currently undergoing the most extensive modernization and expansion project in the history of the site. Over the next few years, the production capacity of the East-Bohemian region is set to increase by up to 280,000 vehicles per year. There are also plans to create up to 1,300 additional jobs. Skoda will be investing around seven billion Czech crowns into the development project.
The new Macan GTS distinguishes itself with a driving experience that surpasses even that for which the Porsche compact SUV has become renowned. A re-engineered chassis, 20 hp more power and uprated brakes are among the dynamic GTS attributes keen drivers will appreciate. Styling highlights featuring typical Porsche GTS motifs complete the distinctive road presence.
In terms of performance, the 360 hp petrol engine with 500 Nm of pulling power places the GTS between the Macan S and the Macan Turbo in the range line-up. The technical basis for this is the 3.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V6 of the Macan S, supplemented by the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) seven-speed transmission and Porsche Traction Management (PTM) with variable power distribution to all four wheels. A sports exhaust system gives an aural clue to the potency of the heart beating within.
A more sporting state of tune has been applied to the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), which also offers a 15mm lowered ride height. The 20-inch diameter RS Spyder design alloy wheels finished in matt black paint complete the dynamic focus of the GTS. Incidentally, the wider tyres on the rear axle that are a unique feature of every Macan chassis, also provide a particularly purposeful stance to the new model.
Outstanding Porsche dynamic ability combined with characteristic day-to-day versatility are offered by the Macan GTS; 0-62 mph acceleration is possible in 5.2 secs, just 5.0 secs with the optional Sport Chrono package. Top speed is 160 mph. This is balanced by fuel economy of up to 31.4 mpg Combined and CO2 emissions of 212 g/km.
Inside, the athletic style continues with ‘GTS’ sport seats with Alcantara centre panels, and additional Alcantara interior trim. The new Porsche Communication Management with a touch-screen monitor, extended functionality and increased operating comfort first seen in the next generation 911 now celebrates its debut in the Macan. The range of connectivity and infotainment versatility can be extended further with key options, which includes satellite navigation. Together with the optional Connect Plus module, the multi-touch monitor offers online navigation with real-time traffic information and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay.
The Macan GTS can be recognized at first glance by exterior accents in black – in high gloss above the waistline and in a lustrous matt finish in the lower areas of the body. This is further complemented by a special version of the Sport Design styling package in GTS-specific coloring. For the first time, the Macan GTS is also available with LED headlights as an option which extend the range of illumination of the road under all conditions.
Together, these special qualities position the new Macan GTS as offering increased dynamic ability as well as further emphasizing the traditional Porsche brand attributes. As a result, the GTS supports the claim that the Macan is the sports car in the compact SUV market segment.
At the Tokyo Motor Show 2015, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. unveiled a concept vehicle that embodies Nissan’s vision of the future of autonomous driving and zero emission EVs: the Nissan IDS Concept.
Presenting at the show, Nissan president and CEO Carlos Ghosn said: “Nissan’s forthcoming technologies will revolutionise the relationship between car and driver, and future mobility.”
After leading the development and expansion of EV technology, Nissan once again stands at the forefront of automotive technology. By integrating advanced vehicle control and safety technologies with cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI), Nissan is among the leaders developing practical, real-world applications of autonomous drive technology.
In August 2013, Ghosn said that by 2020 Nissan plans to equip innovative autonomous drive technology on multiple vehicles. Progress is well on track to achieve this goal. By 2020, expect to see Nissan Intelligent Driving technology deployed on cars in cities around the world.
Some have compared a future with autonomous drive to living in a world of conveyer belts that simply ferry people from point A to B, but the Nissan IDS Concept promises a very different vision of tomorrow. Even when the driver selects Piloted Drive and turns over driving to the vehicle, the car's performance – from accelerating to braking to cornering – imitates the driver’s own style and preferences.
In Manual Drive mode, the driver has control. The linear acceleration and cornering are pure and exhilarating. Yet behind the scenes, the Nissan IDS Concept continues to provide assistance. Sensors continually monitor conditions and assistance is available even while the driver is in control. In the event of imminent danger, Nissan IDS Concept will assist the driver in taking evasive action.
In addition to learning, the Nissan IDS Concept's AI communicates like an attentive partner. From information concerning traffic conditions, the driver’s schedule to personal interests, Nissan IDS Concept’s AI has what is needed to help create a driving experience that is comfortable, enjoyable and safe.
Even though it is a hatchback, the Nissan IDS Concept’s long wheelbase enables comfortable seating space for four adults. But the cabin becomes even more spacious when the driver selects Piloted Drive. In this mode, the steering wheel recedes into the centre of the instrument panel and a large flat screen comes out. Various driving-related operations are handled by AI, voice and gestures from the driver. The interior, which comprises natural materials such as mesh leather, is illuminated by soft light. All four seats rotate slightly inward, facilitating easier conversation. It’s like relaxing in a living room.
When the driver selects Manual Drive, the roomy interior transforms to put the driver in control. All seats face forward. The steering wheel, which takes styling cues from reins for horse riding, appears along with driving meters and a heads-up display that shows route and other driving information. Interior lighting switches to blue, stimulating the ability to concentrate. Nissan's use of hollow-structure A-pillars helps ensure excellent visibility by reducing blind spots and also contributes to the feeling of open space.
For autonomous drive to be widely accepted, people need to fully trust the technology. Through its innovative communication capabilities, the Nissan IDS Concept promotes confidence and a sense of harmony for those outside the car as well. Various exterior lights and displays convey to pedestrians and others the car's awareness of its surroundings and signals its intentions. The car's silver side body line, for example, is actually an LED that Nissan calls the Intention Indicator. When pedestrians or cyclists are nearby, the strip shines red, signalling that the car is aware of them. Another electronic display, which faces outside from the instrument panel, can flash messages such as “After you” to pedestrians. This natural, harmonious system of communication signals a new future with cars.

The Subaru Impreza 5-door Concept made its world debut at the 44th Tokyo Motor Show, previewing the design not only of the next-generation Impreza but Subaru’s future models as a whole.
The Impreza 5-door Concept offers all the functionality essential to Subaru and its customers. The concept achieves a higher level of aerodynamic performance while blending form with function, resulting in thoroughly modern styling which hints at how future versions of the car will look.
The Impreza 5-door Concept’s sense of quality and modernity is achieved through the choice of a luminous silver as the exterior colour, adding a hint of lustre to the clean, sharp lines of the car. The design study exhibits a wide and low stance, suggestive of the innate stability that Subaru is famed for. The hexagonal grille develops Subaru’s visual identity further, while the concept’s front combination lamps exhibit a bold reinterpretation of Subaru’s hallmark ‘hawk-eye’ headlights.
The Impreza 5-door Concept boasts a dynamic look and stance, a result of strong, clean character lines extending from the front wheel arch to the rear shoulders. The front and rear combination lights have been designed to express a powerful, modern look, with the taut lines and compact silhouette of the car further enhancing the concept’s sportiness and stability.
Subaru also took the opportunity at Tokyo to launch a limited edition WRX STI, the S207. Due to go on sale in Japan towards the end of this year with just 400 cars being made, the WRX STI S207 is built off the WRX STI sports saloon, but features a specially-tuned engine with a higher power output – elevated to 328 PS. The car’s ultra-quick, precise handling has also been modified, with the adoption of a quicker steering ratio of 11.0:1, developing the involving and immediate character of the WRX STI. A revised front bumper design and larger rear spoiler add to the exclusive design of the S207.
Bentley’s EXP 10 Speed 6 concept car has been awarded Gold in the Transportation category of the German Design Awards – one of the most highly respected design competitions in the world.
The German Design Council selects a panel of international design experts to judge the entries. They selected the EXP 10 Speed 6 for the Gold award as a result of its timeless, iconic Bentley design, clever use of new materials and aesthetic dynamism.
Panel judge, Johannes Barckmann, commented: “The designers of the EXP 10 Speed 6 achieved a fantastic reinterpretation of the British legend. This is particularly apparent when looking at the interior. The door panels are not covered with leather, but instead with high-quality wood.
“The exterior inspires with a progressive, elegant design vocabulary that transports the classic car into the future. EXP 10 Speed 6 is an extraordinarily beautiful automobile that perfectly combines aesthetics and precision – and is unmistakably a Bentley. It couldn't be done better.”
The EXP 10 Speed 6 is a British interpretation of a high-performance two-seater sportscar. It showcases the future direction of luxury and performance using the finest materials and advanced hybrid technology – a powerful, exquisite and individual concept.
The Bentley Flying Spur and Continental GT Speed – both refreshed in 2015 with a complement of new interior features and exterior styling cues – also received special mentions from the German Design Awards judging panels.
The Clarity Fuel Cell, Honda’s new hydrogen fuel cell vehicle was joined by production models making their Japanese debut including the European-built Civic Type R, Honda NSX, and Odyssey Hybrid.
Following its world debut at 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Honda Project 2&4 powered by RC213V will be shown as well as innovative mobility solutions, The WANDER WALKER and WANDER STAND. This broad portfolio of models is united by Honda’s global brand slogan – The Power of Dreams.
The Clarity Fuel Cell is the world’s first production hydrogen fuel cell vehicle sedan to house the fuel cell stack and drivetrain system under the bonnet. Incorporating Honda’s design principle of man maximum, machine minimum, this unique configuration provides outstanding roominess with seating for five. The size of the fuel cell stack and power generation system is reduced by 33 per cent compared to Honda’s previous hydrogen FCV, the FCX Clarity.
The fuel cell stack is not only more compact, it also produces a higher output with a maximum fuel cell output of over 100 kW and a fuel cell stack power density of 3.1 kW/L.
Leveraging the high output of the fuel cell stack and the power assist of the lithium-ion battery, the electric motor provides 130kW (177 PS) of output, enabling powerful acceleration and a feeling of smooth acceleration from standstill to maximum speed.
Honda has achieved a best in class fuel cell vehicle range per full tank of over 700 km all with a short refuelling time of around 3 minutes, providing similar day-to-day convenience to that of a traditional petrol or diesel powered vehicle.
The Clarity Fuel Cell will be commercially available in Japan from early 2016.
Honda has announced that two all new downsized turbo petrol engines will be coming to Europe. 1-litre and 1.5-litre VTEC TURBO engines will form part of the powertrain line-up for the 10th generation Civic, set for launch in Europe from early 2017.
The all-new engines will be part of Honda’s growing Earth Dreams Technology range and will deliver a combination of dynamic performance, class-leading output and excellent fuel economy. The first new VTEC TURBO engine, a 2-litre, was launched this year in the current Civic Type R, capable of 310ps and a 0-62 mph time of 5.7 seconds.
Based on a completely new engine structure and utilising its newly developed turbo systems, the new engines feature variable valve motion technology to reduce friction and achieve class-leading output and environmental performance. The new engines use a turbocharger with a low moment of inertia and high responsiveness, and direct injection technology to achieve good balance between high output and torque, above those of conventional naturally-aspirated engines.
The all new Civic is scheduled to arrive in worldwide markets from early 2017 after being announced at Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Five door variants will be exclusively produced at Honda’s UK manufacturing plant (HUM) in Swindon. Honda has confirmed investment of €270m in new production technologies and processes to prepare for the new model.
The reinvention of the MINI brand continues apace with the launch of the all-new MINI Convertible. With major refinements against its predecessor, the car features a striking new design and significant enhancements to make open-topped MINI motoring even more dynamic, stylish and practical.
Officially going on sale in 2016, it follows hugely successful model launches in 2004 and 2009. After 12 years of sales success, it remains the only premium soft-top four-seater convertible in the small car segment.
Brand new features include a fully electric roof that is quieter and smoother than the previous model, a fully integrated rollover protection system and more rear space than ever before. A striking new exterior and interior design ensures the new MINI Convertible is unmistakably MINI, whilst showcasing a blend of sporting flair and elegant dynamism.
The all-new MINI Cooper Convertible and Cooper D Convertible are 3,821 mm long, with the MINI Cooper S Convertible 3,850 mm long. All models are 1,727 mm wide, 1,415 mm high and have a wheelbase of 2,495 mm.
Those dimensions have increased compared with the outgoing model, with 98 mm extra length, 44 mm extra width and 1 mm extra height. The wheelbase is 28 mm longer and track width has also grown a further 42 mm at the front and 34 mm at the rear.
The increase in dimensions has enhanced comfort levels and freedom of movement in all four seats. The two front seats have a wider range of adjustment, while rear passengers benefit from easier access, more headroom, a longer seat surface and improved lateral support. The design of the new rear more clearly defines the two individual seats.
Day-to-day practicality has also improved. Smart design and interior packaging means luggage volume has expanded by around 25 per cent to 215 litres with the roof closed and 160 litres with it folded down.
A high level of standard equipment across the range includes MINI Visual Boost Radio with a 6.5-inch screen, MINI Connected, Bluetooth connectivity with USB audio, Rear Parking Distance Control and a Reversing Camera.
Personalisation is once again at the heart of the new MINI Convertible. Options include an industry-first Union Jack design woven into the MINI Yours fabric roof. There are two new exterior colours – Caribbean Aqua and Melting Silver – with a new Chester leather in Malt Brown available for the interior.

Groupe Renault’s industrial design team is marking the 50th anniversary of the death of Le Corbusier by designing and creating a project for a 21st century car inspired by the architect’s modernist principles and theories.
The interwar period saw the birth of modern architecture and the modern automobile. These developments had a major impact on lifestyles, particularly through the growth in car ownership in Europe and worldwide after 1945.
The Design teams at Groupe Renault regularly work on future-looking topics unrelated to range renewals, helping them to explore new ways forward and offering creative staff more leisurely moments.
Beginning two years ago, the teams decided to investigate the topic of “French cultural objects”. Their research and inspirations soon led them back to the golden age of the automobile in the 1930s. The influence of Le Corbusier asserted itself as the obvious source of reflection, as a conceptual prequel to the modern automobile.
The ideas of simplicity, a visually- and aesthetically-pleasing structure, geometric elegance and mastery of light guided the designers in the creation of the Coupé Corbusier concept car. The Design teams at Groupe Renault are proud to pay homage to the visionary architect and designer who reinvented architecture and made it more broadly accessible to the public. His thought and value structure is one that we share at Renault.
Renault’s unique art collection, innovative in its conception and original in its configuration, comprises over 300 works, including paintings, sculptures, drawings and architectural installations produced by some 30 major artists, French and international, between 1967 and 1985.
The collection’s singularity is largely the result of the original approach adapted by Renault. The aim from the start was not to buy finished works ready for sale but to forge a collaborative effort with contemporary artists interested in the industrial world. The company did so by providing them with logistical, technological and financial assistance so that they could create original works in the best possible conditions.
The Renault collection today embodies the Group’s key values of vision, innovation, boldness and altruism. Exhibitions including selected works are organized on a regular basis in the major museums of Renault’s operating countries.
A new peak is about to be reached in the Audi RS range as RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback ‘performance’ models join their existing and already formidable counterparts and ramp power up to a colossal 605PS and torque to up to 750Nm. Despite doing even greater justice to the RS badge by translating their 45PS and 50Nm output advantages into a supercar-challenging sprint time of just 3.7 seconds, the new RS performance models retain the same best-in-class fuel economy and efficiency figures as their ‘standard’ equivalents.
The two RS high-performance models sprint from 0 to 62mph in just 3.7 seconds, an improvement of 0.2 seconds over the respective standard RS model, and need just 12.1 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 124mph, giving them a 1.4-second advantage. In each case the governed 155mph top speed can be increased as an option to 174mph, or 189mph if the dynamic package plus is specified.
Despite the 45PS output boost, the sonorous V8 biturbo power unit returns up to 29.4mpg in the RS 6 Avant performance and 29.7mpg in the RS 7 Sportback performance, corresponding to 223 and 221 g/km of CO2.
The standard eight-speed tiptronic transmission has been designed to maximize the potential of the even more extreme engine in both the new RS 6 Avant performance and the new RS 7 Sportback performance. The driver can choose between the modes D and S or change gears manually either by tapping the selector lever or by using the shift paddles on the RS multifunction sport leather steering wheel. In manual mode, a shift indicator in the driver information system or optional head-up display indicates the rev limit.
In both RS performance models, 21‑inch cast aluminium wheels channel the exceptional output with the help of 285/30 tyres in the RS 6 Avant performance and 275/30 tyres in the RS 7 Sportback performance. The four internally ventilated brake discs have a weight-saving wave design, and can be replaced by carbon fibre-ceramic discs as an option.
Striking design details reinforce the preeminent position of the two new RS performance models. These include the accentuated bumpers with large air inlets up front and the heavily profiled diffuser insert at the rear, the gloss black honeycomb grille typical of the RS models and the flared side sills.
The RS performance-specific exterior is distinguished by a quattro logo on the air inlet duct and matt titanium-look detailing. RS super sports seats with pronounced side bolsters and integrated head restraints are standard, and are upholstered in a black and blue Alcantara and leather combination with a honeycomb pattern and matching stitching on the armrests which also extends to the control elements and floor mats. The knee pads are also finished in Alcantara and the inlays in carbon with blue thread. This sophisticated and exclusive carbon material is interwoven with a blue thread.

Volvo Cars, the premium car maker, has announced one of the automotive industry’s most comprehensive electrification strategies in which plug-in hybrids will be introduced across its entire range. It will develop an entirely new range of electrified smaller cars and build a fully electric car for sale by 2019.
As part of this new strategy, the Swedish car company said it expects electrified vehicles to account for up to 10 per cent of total car sales in the medium term.
The first element of the new electrification strategy involves the introduction of plug-in hybrid versions of its 90 series and 60 series larger cars, based on the company’s new Scalable Product Architecture. This process has already begun with the launch of the T8 Twin Engine All-Wheel Drive plug-in hybrid version of its new XC90 SUV and will continue with plug-in hybrid versions of the new S90 premium sedan and other forthcoming models.
Volvo Cars will also broaden the range of plug-in hybrid cars it offers with the introduction of a new front-wheel drive Twin Engine variant.
The Swedish car maker will further deepen its product offering with the introduction of an entirely new range of smaller 40 series cars based on its newly-developed Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), which, like SPA, has been designed from the outset for electrification. This makes Volvo Car Group one of very few car makers in the world with two brand new vehicle architectures designed to support both plug-in and pure electric powertrain configurations.
Lastly, Volvo Cars has confirmed that it will build an all-electric car for sale by 2019. Further details of this planned model will be released at a later date.
The Alfa Romeo MiTo and Alfa Romeo Giulietta ranges have both been enhanced by new trim levels. A new Collezione specification is available in both the Alfa Romeo MiTo and Giulietta models, while a new Sprint Speciale version joins the Alfa Romeo Giulietta range.
The Collezione versions are the new luxury flagships of their respective ranges, offering a more luxurious and elegant specification than the sporty QV Line models. In the case of the Alfa Romeo MiTo Collezione, standard equipment includes 17-inch ‘Collezione Bronze’ alloy wheels with matching bronze-effect door mirrors and satin-effect headlight and tail light surrounds.
The interior is trimmed in special Collezione cloth and eco-leather upholstery, with brown stitching on the flat-bottom steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake gaiter. A split-folding, three-seat rear bench, sports dials, special Collezione vintage floor mats and a Uconnect NAV infotainment system with TomTom satellite navigation and DAB radio round out the extremely high specification.
It will be offered with a choice of a 0.9-litre TwinAir Turbo 105hp or 1.4-litre Turbo Petrol 140hp engines (the latter with Alfa Romeo’s six-speed ALFA TCT twin-clutch transmission and uprated Brembo brakes as standard).
The Alfa Romeo Giulietta Collezione builds on high specification of the Exclusive trim level but stands out even further from the crowd thanks to its signature gloss-black painted roof with matching door mirrors, front and rear parking sensors and unique, dark-finish, 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. Inside, the seats are trimmed in bespoke ‘Collezione’ leather with heating on the front seats and the luxurious ambience is complimented by a 6.5-inch Uconnect NAV system with advanced voice operated satellite navigation with 3D mapping and DAB digital radio as standard.
Amid all this luxury, Alfa Romeo hasn’t forgotten its cuore sportivo, however: A new Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Speciale also joins the range, building on the specification of the Sprint model to offer ever more performance-oriented equipment. The Sprint Speciale adds sports suspension, 17-inch sports alloy wheels, Brembo brakes, aluminium pedals and Quadrifoglio-style sports seats as standard, along with dual-zone climate control, rear parking sensors, special silver dashboard trim, the ‘Visibility Pack’ and cruise control.
Up to the end of September 2015, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles delivered 321,300 urban delivery vans, Transporters and pick-ups, all over the world. The brand's deliveries therefore continue to be at the level of the previous year (January to September 2014: 324,800, -1.1%).
In the West European markets deliveries fell by 0.2 per cent to 212,500 deliveries (213,000). In Germany deliveries fell by 5.6 per cent to 81,000 vehicles (85,800). There was once again a clear growth in sales in the United Kingdom with an increase of 13.1 per cent to 38,500 vehicles (34,050). In Spain, the brand's sales increased by 8.5 per cent to 7,200 deliveries (6,600).
In the Middle East 26,000 vehicles were delivered, 43.8 per cent more than the previous year (18,100). In Mexico, deliveries rose by 8.9 per cent to 4,800 vehicles (4,400).
In South America Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles delivered 27,700 vehicles (30,000; -7.7%). The rand's deliveries in Brazil fell by 34.2 per cent to 9,100 vehicles (13,900). 14,500 vehicles were delivered on the Argentinian market, an increase of 13.0 per cent (12,850).
Worldwide: Caddy deliveries fell by 4.6 per cent to 104,500 vehicles (109,600). The T-series saw growth of 3.1 per cent to 125,100 deliveries (121,400). Amarok sales fell by 2.5 per cent to 55,600 vehicles (57,000). Crafter deliveries were up by 2.5 per cent to 36,100 vehicles (35,200).
Ford will chart new territory as it seeks to create adhesive innovations inspired by the gecko. Working alongside Procter & Gamble, both companies will share biomimicry research findings in the search for new business solutions.
For years, Ford researchers have considered ways to make auto manufacturing more sustainable. A key challenge is that glue used to adhere foams to plastics and metals can make disassembling parts for recycling nearly impossible.
Enter the gecko. The lizard’s toe pads allow it to stick to most surfaces without liquids or surface tension. The reptile can then easily release itself, leaving no residue. A typical mature gecko weighing 71g is capable of supporting 133Kg.
“The gecko could inspire a host of adhesive innovations for global applications at Ford,” said Debbie Mielewski, Ford senior technical leader for plastics and sustainability research.
“Solving this problem could provide cost savings and certainly an environmental saving,” she said. “It means we could increase the recycling of more foam and plastics, and further reduce our environmental footprint.”
Buoyed by the biomimetic method, Ford recently hosted a forum at its Dearborn campus with participation from Procter & Gamble and The Biomimicry Institute, a nonprofit organization committed to promoting innovative sustainable solutions to modern-day challenges. Nearly 200 researchers and designers took part in the day-long session to learn about biomimicry and how to apply it to their work.
The biomimetic approach is not new. The Shinkansen, or ‘Bullet Train’, in Japan was inspired by the kingfisher. Velcro took its cues from a burr. And improved medical needles were developed based on the mosquito. Interest in the approach has increased in the last decade as awareness of climate change and environmental challenges is heightened, said Gretchen Hooker, project manager for design challenges at The Biomimicry Institute.
Beyond recycling, the Ford design teams have worked for nearly a decade to find nature-inspired technologies, with recent successes in yarn production for seating materials and headliners.
Ford is the only automaker to use Unifi’s high-performance REPREVE fiber, made from 100 per cent recycled materials including plastic bottles, in its vehicles. Ford employs REPREVE in five of its vehicles – the new F-150, Explorer, Edge, Focus Electric and Fusion – making it a globally used material. The use of REPREVE represents Ford’s commitment to reduce, reuse and recycle, part of the automaker’s global sustainability strategy to lessen its environmental footprint.
Ford designers are now looking to expand upon that commitment, turning to nature to further improve the sustainable materials in vehicle fabrics. The gecko may also inspire fabric technologies that could transform the cabin of Ford vehicles, researchers said.
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. will exhibit a surprising concept called Teatro for Dayz at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. This is the first car designed specifically for the generation known as “digital natives.” Teatro for Dayz is more than a car for a generation of consumers accustomed to transformational technology and the freedom to use digital devices for sharing experiences. It is an out-of-the-box concept that defies convention and rejects restrictions.
“Designing a car to appeal to the generation we call ‘share natives’ required us to intentionally not use knowledge and tried-and-true approaches we had amassed,” says Executive Design Director Satoshi Tai. “For example, through design we typically try to convey a sense of acceleration, power, or supreme quality. But these values do not resonate with share natives. If anything, such car traits just call to mind old-fashioned technology that bears little relevance to their lives.”
Nissan has surveyed this generation extensively. Nissan’s Product Planning General Manager Hidemi Sasaki says: “Share natives feel that time spent in a car should be time for connecting and sharing experiences with friends. We can no longer attract their attention with the same old values."
Teatro for Dayz's concept is “a clean canvas.” It's about being able to freely create and share experiences. The entire car serves as a platform for inspiration, allowing share natives to design their own experiences, connect with friends, display an attitude and freely share them.
This is the “Future Canvas” interior concept: the appearance can transform according to your whim. Image display technology supports this concept—turning seats, headrests, door trim and the instrument panel into a moving screen.
Tai explains: “The interior can be visually altered according to one's mood, for playing games, and in the blink of an eye to surprise friends. What Teatro for Dayz is, how it's used, and what it could become are all up to the share native’s imagination.”
At first it may be surprising to see only a steering wheel and a flat instrument panel, but in this interior space conventional knobs and switches would limit display arrangement and expression. That's why Nissan adopted voice control and motion sensors for the air conditioning and audio systems. In drive mode, meters and car navigation data are displayed on the instrument panel. When parked, it all disappears. Seats with bases that resemble balance balls feel radically different from the usual grip of a car seat, further signalling a departure from the conventional.
With an exterior color scheme of satin white silver between full gloss white, the vehicle resembles leading-edge handheld technologies and provides share natives even more space for design creativity.
Teatro for Dayz’s simple, square design maximizes possibilities for communicating and sharing, both inside and out. The wide, open interior provides the perfect space for friends to gather, while the plain exterior features LED screens that enable further self-expression. Overall, the unusually simple exterior design creates a compact and grounded impression, with cleanly rounded roof and bumpers, wheels extended to the outer corners and radically short front and rear overhangs.
