You feel secure and safe in a Golf. It feels well screwed together. It has also sailed through inspection with no problems at all. It's also an enjoyable driving experience.
Some purists might say the 1.4 has little power for a Golf but all I can say is that it's been perfectly okay for me as a motorist who drives carefully and within the law. It's perky in performance and is enough power to get around quickly.
Practical, with lots of room inside, front and back, and a spacious boot. The overall spec for the car is great, as it's fully loaded with quite a few airbags, ESP driving safety system, power-steering, air-conditioning, radio and CD player. That's about all I need in a car.
Reliable, comfortable, simple and pleasant looks, a pleasure to drive
VW engine technology means a broad spread of pulling power is on offer from this little performer. Fuel economy is satisfyingly good, but you might find it a little rough at low engine speeds.
Some of the materials in the Golf's cabin are rather dour, but it's hard to fault the build quality. Everything works with a well-engineered precision and the overall feel is solid.
Front seat occupants benefit from generous leg-, head- and shoulder room, and there's enough space for two large adults or three children in the rear
The Golf strikes a brilliant balance between comfort and control. It's also spacious and our favoured Match trim comes well kitted. Build quality is superb.
Some of the engines are noisy and the rear seats don't fold completely flat. Pricy for a 1.4.
