Twin Controversy! All-New BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Competition Coupe in Singapore!

With a 35-year history, the all-new BMW M3 and M4 cars have finally made their presence here. Both sedan and coupe body styles are designed to occupy two to different territories - The BMW M3 Competition Sedan, with sufficient room for up to five, while the BMW M4 Competition Coupé, a two-door sports car that can seat four.

Both M cars feature that new controversially-styled front-end that many have been divided over, first seen with the new 4 Series. We can promise that they do look better in the flesh, than in pictures. Both the M3 and M4 Competition cars feature muscular bulges on their bonnet and their sides, which also means that they are slightly longer and wider than their 3 Series and 4 Series mild siblings. Still on size, both cars have increased by 122mm in length, and have a 45mm increase in wheelbase length, when compared to their predecessors.

Both M Competition cars are fitted with a staggered 275/35 ZR19 and 285/30 ZR20 front and rear setup, with stopping power coming from M Compound brakes, painted in red, and emblazoned with the world’s most powerful letter.

In keeping things light, and lowering the centre of gravity at the same time, both cars are fitted with carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) roofs. They also are equipped with M-specific exterior mirrors that have aerodynamically optimised contouring.

The BMW Live Cockpit Professional system, consisting of a 10.25” digital instrument display and a same-sized instrument display, featuring their new Operating System 7 are standard; while the unique head-up display with M-specific content is intended for easier access to drive data.

Both M cars are powered by a 3.0 straight-six, with twin turbochargers taking power to 510hp (60hp more), with the engine’s redline at 7,200rpm. Peak torque maxes at 650Nm, and is delivered from between 2,750 and 5,500 rpm; 100Nm more than the cars they replace. The M cars get an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic which drives just the rear wheels - BMW purists will be happy with this one! BMW boasts gear ratios that are spaced perfectly to attune to the engine’s characteristics, with broadly-spaced ratios designed to capitalise on the engine’s wide band of torque. The Drivelogic button also makes its way into the M3 and 4 cars, allowing drivers the choice of comfort oriented, sports focused, or track optimised gearshifts.

Performance-wise, both the M3 and M4 Competition cars clock in at 100km/h in a near supercar-rivalling 3.9 seconds, with 200km/h achieved in 12.5 seconds.

There is a Launch Edition available of both the BMW M3 Competition and M4 Competition cars, which includes inlays for the air intakes, a rear diffuser – with unique geometry for each model – and exterior mirror caps and a rear spoiler made from CFRP. For both cars, customers can also expect exclusive 19/20” M aluminium forged wheels in 826 M Bicolour Black in a double-spoke design.

Both M-badged cars are now available for viewing at the Performance Munich Autos showroom.
