The Spanish brand today unveiled the world premiere of the new Ibiza ECOMOTIVE. This is the third generation of this version, whose record-setting emissions level of only 89 g/km of CO2 and unrivalled average fuel consumption figure of 3.4 l/100 km are possible thanks to the 75 hp 1.2 TDI CR engine with DPF particulate filter and efficient technologies including the Auto Start/Stop function and the energy recovery system, clearly making it one of the cleanest cars on the market today.
The arrival of the new Ibiza ECOMOTIVE confirms SEAT's ecological vehicle leadership; the remaining models in the ECOMOTIVE line-up feature the lowest emissions levels in their segments – the León with 99 g/km, the Altea and Altea XL with 119 g/km and the Alhambra with 159 g/km.
Unveiled recently at the Geneva Motor Show, the SEAT IBE Concept will be getting a lot of attention at the SEAT stand in Madrid. It is a completely electric, compact sporty coupé, which concentrates a lot of design sophistication and driving pleasure. The SEAT IBE prototype runs on the ecological drive train of the future, and its sporty, dynamic urban mobility concept offers an exciting look at the evolution of SEAT design into the next generation.
The Madrid show would not be complete without the unconventional León Twin Drive ECOMOTIVE, a plug-in hybrid model that features a combustion engine and an electric motor. Its lithium ion battery can get charged at the mains, giving it a 50 kilometre range. Longer trips would require additional support from the combustion engine. Mass production of the León Twin Drive ECOMOTIVE is scheduled for 2014, but by the beginning of 2011, 10 units will be making their road debut on the streets of Madrid, Barcelona and Seville.
SEAT is also showcasing the new Ibiza ST for the first time ever at the Madrid show, to coincide with its commercial launch, as well as the 143 hp Ibiza FR 2.0 TDI. This full-fledged ecological GTI features CO2 emissions of 119 g/km, which proves that a high-performance vehicle does not have to sacrifice sportiness for sustainability.
SEAT's deep-rooted concern for the environment involves manufacturing vehicles with a high sports standard that deliver low fuel consumption figures and emissions levels. The Spanish company tops the best-selling list in Spain of models that register under 120 g/km, with the Ibiza being the undisputed segment leader and the León in sixth place.
Additionally, models with emissions lower than 120 g/km make up 60% of SEAT's domestic sales. This figure rises to 71.2% and 62.3% respectively for the Ibiza and the León. Likewise, SEAT is increasing its sub-120 g/km vehicles with the Altea and Altea XL and the arrival of the new CR engines, which makes buyers exempt from paying registration tax in Spain.
A total of 21 SEAT versions feature emissions levels beneath 120 g/km. On the Ibiza range (5-door, SC and ST), the entire Diesel line-up registers truly low figures, and the efficient 1.2 TSI petrol engine delivers a figure of 119 g/km. The two models in the León range, the 105 hp 1.6 TDI CR ECOMOTIVE and the 105 hp 1.6 TDI CR register 99 and 119 g/km, while the 105 hp 1.6 TDI CR ECOMOTIVE on the Altea and Altea XL registers 119 g/km.
