Getting into a road accident with another vehicle is messy and tedious enough to deal with. There are photos to be taken, accident reports to be filed, and insurance claims to be made. This process can get even more tricky if the accident vehicle involved is a Malaysian registered vehicle with a Malaysian insurance company. In order for your car insurance claims process to be smooth and without issue, there are certain guidelines surround the timeliness of your accident reporting at a police station in the hours following the accident, tow truck related concerns, and the necessary documentation such as images and the other party’s identity card and driving licence which you will need to collect as part of the reporting and claims process.

If done incorrectly, your motor insurance company may have issues submitting a third party claim, resulting in you potentially having to make a claim from your own insurance - thus causing you to lose your no claim discount (NCD). To find out exactly how to claim insurance for accidents with a Malaysian vehicle, we spoke to Mr Daeng Sulaiman, Director of Unique Automotive Services in Singapore, which is a car repair workshop that has specialised in Malaysian motor insurance claims since 1999, and has helped many Singaporean drivers make third party claims from Malaysian motor insurance companies over the years, whether the road accident happened in Singapore, or in Malaysia.
