Audi S7 Sportback 4.0 TFSI qu A tronic Review: Executive Express

An executive car that will eat miles for breakfast – that’ll be the V8-powered Audi S6. Raymond Lai previews it in Munich, Germany before its arrival here in a couple of week’s time.

In addition to the four-door S6, we also managed to bag a drive in the mechanically similar S7 Sportback during our time in Munich. Just like the S6, the S7 gets the usual S car add ons on the outside but in the case of the S7, only its 20-inch wheels and the ‘S7’ and ‘V8T’ badges distinguish it from the S line kit equipped A7 3.0 TFSI quattro variant. In terms of dimensions, the S7 is also longer, wider and lower than the S6, which should improve stability overall.

Weighing at about 50kg more than the S6, the S7 Sportback’s 0-100km/h time is a tenth slower than the S6’s 4.6 seconds even though both cars feature the same 420bhp tune for their 4-litre biturbo V8s. On the road, this slight performance deficit can hardly be felt as the S7 feels just as urgent as the S6 when the right pedal is floored.

The only department where the S7 felt different from the S6 was in the ride quality department. The S7’s ride felt a tad more pliant at both medium and high cruising speeds when compared to the S6’s during our drive but this could well be down to differing tyre pressures or different tyres fitted on both cars.
