Hyundai Tucson 2.0 GLS SP Review: Quantum Leap
With the new Tucson, Hyundai will certainly change people’s perception of its SUV models.
The range topping SP model test driven here is highly equipped for a mid-sized SUV from a budget brand. Standard kit include keyless operation, cruise control, factory fitted stereo with controls on the steering wheel and MP3 playability and iPod compatibility, electric sunroof, two-zone climate control, vehicle stability control system, hill descent control, all-wheel drive, 18-inch alloy wheels and the kit just goes on.
I was suitably impressed with this new Korean SUV the moment i stepped into the cabin – it is superbly equipped, the interior is spacious and speaks of quality while the handling is very much car-like. Comparing the new Tucson with the half decade old previous model is like comparing chalk and cheese. The new Tucson is certainly a quantum leap over its predecessor... until i saw its $85,999 asking price. Yes, you can get the base model for $77,999 but then again a Japanese 2.0 Suzuki Grand Vitara is even cheaper while the Honda CR-V is not significantly more.
The Tucson will surely be Singapore’s best selling SUV... if not for its relatively high price.
