Jaguar F-Pace P400e AWD Review: Still Got the Growl?
In a world obsessed with EVs, where does this hybrid Jaaag fit in?

Back in 2016, Jaguar shocked the world by doing something it had never done before: It built an SUV. Yes, an SUV. This from a brand best known for slinky sedans and sports cars driven by British spies and golf-club members. The purists nearly choked on their Earl Grey tea: “SUV? From Jaguar?!”
But look who’s laughing now; the F-Pace went on to become the brand’s best-selling model. Without it, Jaguar might have gone extinct faster.

Fast forward to 2025, and the F-Pace has evolved into something smarter, cleaner and much more refined. Meet the Jaguar F-Pace P400e AWD, a plug-in hybrid that tries to give you the best of both worlds. Under the bonnet, you get a 2.0-litre turbocharged Ingenium engine paired with an electric motor. Combined, they churn out 398 bhp and 640 Nm of torque - that’s nearly as much punch as a Golf R, except this one can carry your mother-in-law, her shopping, and still have space for the dog. Or cat.
Despite weighing over 2.2 tonnes (about as heavy as a fully loaded Toyota Hiace doing airport transfer duties), the F-Pace P400e does 0–100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. That’s quick enough to make a BMW X3 or Mercedes-Benz GLC driver raise an eyebrow at the next traffic light. And if you’re feeling eco-conscious, the F-Pace can travel up to 64 km on pure electric power; perfect for zipping from your condo carpark to the office and back without ever waking the petrol engine. For some, that’s basically a week’s worth of errands.

But where Jaguar has made the biggest leap forward is inside. The first-generation F-Pace looked great but felt a bit too… Land Rover parts-bin. This 2025 version? A totally different story. You get an 11.4-inch curved Pivi Pro touchscreen, a beautifully sculpted dashboard, and materials so plush they make a German rival look like it’s wearing Uniqlo to a ‘smart casual’ dinner party. Premium leather, proper metallic trim; sit in here and you feel like you’ve just stepped into The British Club lounge.
And yes - thank heavens - there are still proper physical knobs for climate control. No need to dig through submenus just to lower the fan speed when your passenger says, “cold lah”. Everything’s intuitive, elegant, and distinctly British. The cabin is also impressively quiet; with its double-glazed glass and top-notch insulation, the loudest thing you’ll hear is probably your spouse asking why you didn’t take the PIE instead of the ECP...

Out on the road, the F-Pace P400e drives like a proper Jaguar: Taut, balanced, and composed. It doesn’t bounce around like some tall SUVs, and the steering feels precise, giving you confidence whether you’re cruising down the AYE or darting through South Buona Vista’s twisty roads. The AWD system is smart too, sending power where it’s needed without you noticing. And despite the added weight from the hybrid battery, the ride remains supple. Jaguar’s engineers clearly remembered that not every road in Singapore is billiard-table smooth.
Of course, there are trade-offs. The boot is smaller than the regular F-Pace (619 litres versus 650 litres) because of the battery pack. Still, that’s enough for golf bags or a week’s worth of NTUC groceries; assuming you don’t buy 20 boxes of bottled water in one go. Charging takes about 30 minutes (to 80%) on a DC fast charger, or around two and a half hours on a 7 kW wallbox; just enough time to finish dinner at the mall.

Now, here’s where things get tricky. The car world today is going full EV: Teslas are everywhere, BMW’s iX range is fast becoming Bukit Timah’s default choice, and Chinese brands like BYD and Aion are muscling in with big batteries and bigger screens. In this context, a plug-in hybrid like the F-Pace P400e can feel like it’s stuck between two worlds: not as futuristic as a full EV, but cleaner than a pure petrol car.
But here’s the thing though: The Jaguar charm is still very much alive. This isn’t a brand that tries to be all things to all people. The F-Pace P400e is classy, understated, and distinctively British in how it goes about its business. Where the Germans flex their tech, Jaguar still wins you over with feel; that intangible sense of refinement that reminds you this isn’t a car designed by a committee. It’s the kind of SUV you buy because you don’t want to be just another black-on-black X3 in the carpark.
Sure, Jaguar’s in a tough spot; they’ve promised to go fully electric, but cars like this remind us the big cat’s still got life in it. It’s powerful, comfortable, beautifully built, and quietly confident.
So, should you buy one? If you want something with real personality, if you appreciate a cabin that feels rather classy and opulent, and if you like your performance with a side of class, the F-Pace P400e deserves a look.
It’s not the loudest or flashiest SUV around, but in a world where everyone’s shouting, sometimes it’s the one that speaks softly (in a posh British accent) that really stands out.
