Mercedes-Benz C 180 Kompressor BlueEfficiency 1.6 Review: Downsizing trend

Downsizing seem to be the keyword these days, and it seem even Mercedes-Benz went ahead with their own - yes, a smaller engine for its popular C-Class sedan. How does it perform, and can it attract badge-conscious buyers looking for a not-so-extravagantly big car?

What we like:
pros
Smaller engine leads to lesser road tax
pros
insurance and fuel economy
pros
supercharged lump does perform when needed
pros
autobox swaps between gears smoothly.
What we dislike:
cons
Gearbox could do with an extra ratio
cons
suspension needs to be sharpened a little bit more
cons
missing electric seats.

The C180 Kompressor Blue Efficiency is a wonderful car, and it makes a compelling buy (in fact, if I had the money, I would have gone for it immediately). It has an admirable mix of talents, and buyers can take comfort - they can save $232 per year in road tax, while getting better fuel efficiency at 14.1km/l.

Yes, it does not have fully motorized electric seats and reverse sensors cost extra, but these are just little niggles when it is just such an all-rounded car...
