And so you're in the market for one of those luxury people-carrier. You could go the PI route and settle for the Toyota Alphard. But if you're looking the official-channel way, there's now Nissan's Elgrand to consider...and it's equally huge inside too.

What we like:

Spacious interior that can ferry almost anyone of any stature

highly comfortable to drive and a quirky look that grows on you.
What we dislike:

Boring dashboard design

engine that needs to be worked hard.

The base model tested here comes in at $127,000 while the locally outfitted "VIP" and "Mobile Office" versions come with additional premiums on their price tags.

By now, you should realize that you do get a lot of metal and room with the Elgrand. In terms of competitors, the Elgrand only has the parallel-imported Toyota Alphard to contend with.

But for the price of the Elgrand, the closest Alphard model to go head-to-head is the four-cylinder 2.4-litre version. The Elgrand, well, certainly offers much more refinement and performance from its V6...
