Even with the LCD TV in place, there is still a fair amount of space left to transport several cartons, including a sizeable 33kg box containing my BOSE home entertainment system. Even the twin two- metre tall long flat packaging of the bookcases from Ikea fits nicely into the Passat Variant. All these without the need to fold down the front passenger seats…Simply amazing!

Probably the most useful feature (well, at least for me) on the Passat Variant is the electrically powered tailgate. This is especially useful when I’m carrying too many items - a simple press on the key fob, and the tailgate opens correspondingly. After loading the cargo into the car, a press of a button on the tailgate will let it close by itself.

Though we have to make no less than seven trips to transport all our belongings and new purchases from both our parents’ places to our new home, it was no hassle as the 3.2-litre V6 engine under the hood works brilliantly with the highly acclaimed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) transmission and 4Motion four-wheel drive system. All this combination certainly provided both of us endless on-road entertainment! If only we do not have a full load behind our seats on each trip…

Till now, we are still slowly settling into our new place. Both the TV and the entertainment system are still waiting to be fixed up, while there are still cartons to be unpacked. The Passat Variant, on the other hand, has long settled in my mind as possibly one of the most capable load-luggers – impressively competent and entertaining too.
