Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion 1.4 Review: Got the blues?

What's small, diesel powered and hails from Germany? Not sure of the answer? If Volkswagen's Polo BlueMotion is your answer, then you're spot-on. So what does this little car has to offer, besides the "clean emission"?

Like its Golf GTI sibling, the BlueMotion has a properly weighted steering wheel. Interestingly despite the skinny profile of the tyres and those soft springs, it can still manage to handle like a hot-hatch. Throw it hard into a corner or go slightly faster than you usually would into a deep bend – the car will still go, with understeer kept at bay. Strange, but good strange.

Sadly, it nose dives incessantly under hard braking. Not only that, the car seems to get unsettled easily when driven over uneven road surfaces. Must be the tyres…

It’s a pricey little car and a pricey car to pay taxes for - despite the humble fact that you buy such a car because you care for the environment. Well in my opinion, if you’re the sort who has the money and is eager to make a statement on “caring for the environment”, this car is the one choice you can’t go wrong with. Trust me, it (a) sure as hell beats the Toyota Prius in terms of driving experience, and (b) will not emit black smoke like the Grande Punto Multijet when driven hard.

Suddenly, the BlueMotion is the coolest small diesel car in the market now. The End.
