#2.       Newton Food Centre, then Reservoirs

Driving down Orchard Road towards Newton Food Centre takes the number 2 spot on this list, because hey, it’s Orchard Road. Cruising down our nation’s tree and mall-lined broadway - equivalent to New York’s 5th Avenue or Paris’s Champs Elysées – always puts me in a festive mood. All told, a great scene-setter for what might be ahead for the rest of the evening.

The Drive:

What’s more, during my test drive, we shared the road with a variety of exotic supercars - Orchard is known to be the favourite stomping ground of the well-heeled and show-offy. Again, great for setting the scene.

After a short and spirited drive, we arrived at Newton Food Centre, where, even though Newton Food Centre is perpetually packed by both locals and expats, there were ample parking lots to be found.

The Dinner:

My date and I fed each other tiger prawns, while slurping a slew of locally-famous hawker delicacies, ranging from oyster omelette to chilli crabs, into each other’s ravenous lips. We then washed everything down with thirst-quenching sugar cane juice, laced with a twist of lime. Intoxicating, to say the least.

What’s near to Newton? Surprisingly, the answer is ‘reservoirs’. Each of the major reservoirs are nearby or just an expressway cruise away – Macritchie for example is just up the road. Park at the top deck of the multistory carpark when you get there, to admire the full moon and each other.

The Destination:

#3.       Pasir Panjang Food Centre, then Kent Ridge Park

: I’m not saying that I have personally done this, but after satiating our hunger pangs at Pasir Panjang Food Centre, my date and I may have headed for Kent Ridge Park, where we then satiated our appetites for each other.

The Dinner & Destination

You’ll be getting there via South Buona Vista Road (aka ’99 Turns’) – a road that ranks amongst my Top 4 Singapore Roads for Maximum Driving Pleasure –because that’s the only road up or down Kent Ridge Park.

The Drive:

Alternatively, if you want to finish the evening off with a relaxing night cap instead, Holland Village, about 5 to 10 minutes drive away, possesses a certain bohemian charm, which was not the least bit lessened by a naked couple walking through as though they were strolling in the Garden of Eden. An inspiration, therefore, for prospective lovers everywhere, and hence worth checking out.

#4.       Changi Village, then Changi Coast Road

The next best thing about Changi Village, aside from the great food, is of course the long drive down Changi Coast Road. This is one of our island’s longest roads, flanking as it does one of the many runways in Changi Airport. It’s also not uncommon for drivers on this road to stop and savour the blaze of sound and fury as jumbo jets taxi down the runways towards exotic destinations of their own.

The Drive:

With evocative promises of escape, and as-far-away-as-you-can-get isolation from the rest of the island, this is one drive you should try to bring your date on before you commit to a 7 day getaway.

If you are a chicken, you are not safe in Changi Village. That’s because Changi Village Hawker Centre is a favourite late-night destination amongst us locals – all because of its fried chicken wings, which have inspired praise from no less than celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain.

The Dinner:

However, while both the bbq and fried poultry parts are fabulous, those aren’t the only pieces of meat that Changi Village is famed for. In addition to the transsexuals that are known to cruise neighbouring Lorong Bekukong, the Village People also serve up a wide spectrum of late-night eateries that caters to nearly every gastronomical whim.

The food is great and there are plenty of private roads nearby to pull the top down, moonbath, and get to know each other better. What more can you ask for when you go pak-tor?

The Destination:

#5.  Seah Im Hawker Center, then Mount Faber Drive or Sentosa

Seah Im Hawker Center is conveniently located at the foot of Mount Faber (opposite Harbourfront), and it is also a frequent haunt for those leaving Sentosa Island who are seeking late night Halal food.

The Dinner:

Like Kent Ridge, Mount Faber offers great views to admire the full-moon, and the roads down to sea-level are amongst the best Singapore has to offer.

The Drive:

This is one for those of you who love infinite choices. After eating your hearts out, you can head over the Sentosa Causeway where you’ll enjoy the run of our island resort's exclusive roads and beaches – some of which are really, really exclusive and private. Especially the beach carparks.

The Destination:

Or you can head up Mount Faber where you can get even closer to the moon, and to each other.

If none of these tickle your fancies, try these 4 Singapore Roads for Maximum Driving Pleasure, where you and your date can enjoy a great drive and then continue taking great pleasure in each other’s company.
