Its no coincidence that quite a number of car makers are responding to the publics demand that cars are more than just a form of transport. SUVs seem to be making a comeback with Mazda, Honda, Ssangyong and Subaru introducing new, more car-like 4x4s.

The new Mazda CX-7, Honda CR-V, Ssangyong Actyon and Subaru Tribeca show that while the concept of the SUV is still popular, they are now less overtly rugged but are instead more car-like with an emphasis on handling and fun rather than serious off-road ability. Sporty but stylish in town seems to be the latest trend.

Suzuki has certainly captured this mix off an SUVs sportiness with car-like drivability with its new SX4, and the kitted out version at the stand with roof rack and other options certainly made it quite attractive.

Fiat also fitted out its new Panorama MPV with roof racks and bikes to show off how versatile this vehicle can be. In fact, the Panorama is quite a package – it is incredibly spacious for its size, and its economical 1.4-litre engine and attractive pricing makes it one of the most affordable MPVs around.

So yes, a car is more than a basic form of transportation, and there are definitely many examples of this at this years motorshow.
