Mercedes-Benz's mid-sized SUV launched here - GLC 250 4MATIC
Mercedes-Benz’s mid-sized SUV, the GLC 250 4MATIC, was launched here earlier today...
If you didn’t already know, the three pointed star has gone on to rename its entire range of cars by the staple sedan offerings – that is it’s going to be C, E and S something.
Replacing the GLK, the new GLC fills the gap between the monstrously huge GLE recently unveiled as well as the smaller GLA that’s based off the A Class hatch.
The second generation of Mercedes’ mid-sized off-roader will go up against the likes of the BMW X3 and Audi Q5 which are popular offerings on our roads.
Creating a distinctive image to set itself apart from competitors, Mercedes has gone with sensual purity and modern aesthetics to soften the appeal and lean over to the “soft-roader” crowd rather than the traditional tough-as-nails theme for the exterior design.
On the inside, the current styling that’s been employed to great success in the C Class makes another appearance. High quality materials such as leather, piano black gloss finishes and chrome switchgear make for a pleasant cabin that exudes luxury. Of course buyers will get a choice of interior and exterior finishes and trims which include various wood and nappa leather options and Exclusive Line or AMG Line exterior styling.
The rear bench has also been made a more spacious place to be sat, with a 34mm increase in foot space. Together with split folding rear seats, luggage space has also been bumped up to 580 litres.
Powering the GLC 250 4MATIC is a 2.0l inline-4 turbo-petrol engine mated to the 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic gearbox first debuted on the GLE 450 AMG coupe. Permanent all-wheel drive is also standard here.
AIR BODY CONTROL adaptive air suspension is also available optionally should you wish to have greater control over the car’s ride and damping qualities, which is a first for cars in this segment. Otherwise, five driving modes are available as standard that enables drivers to alter the personality of the car.
As with all current Mercedes cars, a whole host of safety technology is available for the car, including Collision Prevention Assist Plus, Attention Assist and Pre-Safe Plus.
The GLC 250 4MATIC is available in one engine variant at press time, beginning at $225,888 at Cycle and Carriage showrooms.
