A modern and innovative automobile, the MiTo's name also evokes the roots of a close to centennial brand that has scripted some of the most exciting pages in automotive history.

The name MiTo is an acronym formed by the first two letters of Milan and Turin, the two cities that gave life to the new Alfa Romeo model. The MiTo was designed in Milan, at the Arese-based Alfa Romeo Styling Center and will be produced at the historic Mirafiori plant in Turin.

A "compact sports car" as defined by its dimensions: 4,065 mm long, 1,721 mm wide, and 1,434 mm high, the Alfa Romeo MiTo has successfully married harmonious shapes and volumes with Alfa Romeo's mechanical and engine excellence.

The MiTo is characterised by its unmistakable Italian style, a valuable factor contributing to the construction of the brand's new stylistic identity inaugurated with the launch of the Alfa 8c Competizione.

The Alfa Romeo MiTo possesses some of the salient traits of the exclusive Alfa GranTurismo, such as original shape of glazed surface on the vehicle sides, the three-lobe configuration of the front bumper and LED lights at the rear.

A peculiar feature of the new model is the refined frame - available in three different colours - that encloses the light clusters and makes them into design objects.

The interior of the MiTo does not pale in comparison to its exterior. The choice of materials and attention paid to the fine details have resulted in an inviting setting and sporty feel.

Alfa Romeo has always prided itself on the ability of its sportier models to stir the emotions of the most discerning customers with its sensational driving experience, and the MiTo is no exception.

It is safe to say that it is the only car in its class having leading-edge technological contents - the Alfa D.N.A. system. Alfa D.N.A. affects the behaviour of the engine, the brakes, the suspension, the steering system and the gearbox, offering 3 driving mode options that enable the driver to adopt a driving style he/she finds most congenial or ideal in keeping with the situation. These three modes are: Dynamic (super sporty), Normal (for city roads) and All Weather (maximum safety even on poor grip surfaces).

The engines used for the MiTo embody state-of-the-art engineering technology: the initial range consists of:

- 1.3 liter, 90 bhp
- 1.6 liter, 120 bhp

- 1.4 liter turbo, 155 bhp and 178 bhp.

All the engines are mated to a manual gearbox, with 5 or 6 speeds depending on the version. An innovative double-clutch automatic transmission, the DDCT, will also be available later.

And as a testament to its success, the MiTo outdid other automobile contenders to come out tops in the prestigious Auto Europa 2009 award.
