Review: Jawbone Era Bluetooth Headset

Jawbone’s newest Bluetooth headset has arrived, the Jawbone Era, evolving from the discrete styling of the Icon and taking its place at the top of the company’s product line up. There’s more than just good looks promised too!

The first of the features is that of the skin-contact microphone, which the line of headsets is named after, as it contacts the face of the user to provide clearer audio through a special sensor.

Another one of the great features of the ERA is the noise cancellation feature called “NoiseAssassin 3.0. This automatically changes the volume of the microphone and blocks out noises when they surface. I called several people and tried a number of conditions while driving. For example, in a setting with my car audio turned off, the caller could hear my fine, I then kicked up my stereo and the Era automatically adjusted and cancelled out the noise. This is also the same with the speaker volume, in loud situations the speaker will also turn up and when it’s quiet, it will turn down.

Pairing the headset is dead easy, simply shake it four times and activate the Bluetooth settings on your device and pair them! It took under 10 seconds to do it and it was quick and easy with my iPhone. The headset worked with both Calls and other Applications such as iPod or YouTube. One feature that’s great with the iPhone is that it shows the battery capacity in the corner. This is also available with Android and Blackberry operating systems with the simple download of an app.

The built-in accelerometer was a hit and miss for me as it didn’t operate at optimum and falters occasionally. It appears the only built-in use for the accelerometer was pairing; however, you can download Motion applications off the Jawbone website.

It’s tough not to be impressed by the Jawbone Era: the HD audio and effective noise-reduction technology takes care of the core functionality, around which the solid build quality, innovative use of an accelerometer, and comfortable fit (compared to some other Bluetooth headsets I’ve used) adds up to an all-round winner. Jawbone definitely seems to be listening in on feedback.

It’s a Wrap!
