When the going gets tough, the Jeep gets going!
We got a taste of true off-roading with the Jeep team from local Chrysler distributor during the recently concluded New Paper SUVival challenge. Suffice to say, we had a rocking great time.
Most challenging though was the 40 degree hill climb that awaited the Jeep at the end of the trail. While waiting in line at the foot of the hill, the long incline ahead of me looked to be the only worry I’ve had on the trail.
When my turn came, I grit my teeth and prayed silently that I wouldn’t flip the $168,000 Jeep down the long hill climb. To my utter amazement, the Jeep seemingly scoffed at this lack of challenge as it surmounted the hill with my feet barely feeding 50% throttle to the engine. At the end, I sat in deep reflection, wondering what could possibly stop this beast in its tracks. If not a 40 degree hill, what then?
Before I knew it, the off-road trail was at an end and I parked the Jeep back with the rest of its cohort glistening in the mid-day sun begging for more punishment. There it sat, the Jeep Wrangler Sahara that gave me the most fun I’ve ever had with the speedometer needle below 30kmh. Besides, my Jeep wasn’t hard to spot considering yours truly made it the dirtiest of the lot with my dash through the mud pool (watch the video below).
All in all, this trip was probably one of the most enjoyable road trips I’ve had in a while. Even my past drive back from Sepang in a Nissan GTR pales in comparison to the experience of riding in the back of an open top Jeep. Yes, I’m a little sunburnt from falling asleep at the back of the Jeep at one point under the noon day sun but I'm not complaining.
Good friends, good music and a great Jeep made this a road trip to remember.
