Wing Commander
Mercedes Benz offered media from Malaysia and Singapore a sneak preview of the much-heralded SLS AMG at the Sepang Go-Kart track last week ahead of its global launch on Saturday 27th March.

The first production right-hand drive car to roll off the assembly line was shown to the media by Florian Mueller, Vice-president of Mercedes Benz Malaysia. He was on hand to answer questions on the S$750,000 (estimated) supercar as well, and even fired up the dry-sumped 6208cc 571bhp V8 to the delight of all assembled. With 650Nm on tap, the 1.6 tonne aluminium spaceframed SLS can cover the century sprint in a scant 3.8 seconds and charge onto a top speed of 317km/h.

With its signature gullwing doors, the SLS is the first car to be developed totally in-house by AMG and boast a host of technical innovations including a new seven-speed gearbox aptly named SPEEDSHIFT, a sub 5kg carbon fibre driveshaft to transmit power to the transaxle transmission and well-heeled kiasu owners would be glad to know that in the unlikely event the SLS ever end up on its roof, explosive charges will blow the hinges off the doors, allowing occupants to scamper to safety.
The SLS, with an estimated OMV of S$250k will be officially launched locally in the third quarter of this year but Singapore's exclusive distributor Cycle&Carriage is already taking orders for this breathtaking supercar.
