ZECO launches first zero-emissions electric scooter in Singapore
Zeco Scooters Pte Ltd, which develops, distributes and deploys networks for Electric Vehicles (EVs), today announced the launch of Singapore's first electric scooter. Emission-free, affordable, and stylish, the German E-max electric scooter will be available for pre-order from January 15, 2009.

The electric scooter is manufactured by Germany's E-max, a global leader in electric vehicle development and production. The scooter makes no sound, generates zero emissions and offers a high range of exceptional performance.
Jan Croeni, Managing Director of Zeco Scooters Pte Ltd, introduced the first E-Max electric scooter today at Zeco's showroom in Singapore: "Singapore is well positioned to become one of the first cities in the world to fully integrate electric vehicles into its transportation system, and we are excited to be working with strategic partners on this pioneering project."
Zeco was founded in 2008 by Asia Cleantech Capital, an investment management firm focused on clean energy in the Asia Pacific. Ron Mahabir, Managing Director of Asia Cleantech Capital said, "Zeco offers consumers an immediate solution for the dual crises of climate change and peak oil, and is an important step for Singapore towards increased energy security and diversity."
Designed for commuters and pleasure seekers, the German engineered and Italian designed scooter can be charged at any electrical outlet, similar to the charging of a laptop or mobile phone. Zeco plans to deploy convenient charging stations in prime locations such as the Central Business District (CBD), retail malls, and even in the heartland areas of Singapore to ensure that charge spots are conveniently located within 10km of most Singaporeans.
The average speed of traffic in the CBD* during peak hours is estimated to be 27 km/h. Zeco's scooter can achieve a speed of over 50 km/h with a range of 90km on fully charged batteries.
The durability of the design is evidenced in the use of a modular engine that is located in the rear wheel, enabling direct torque without the use of a chain or belt. The Zeco scooter requires very limited maintenance although, if required, the engine can be replaced within an hour.
Electric vehicles help provide a greener alternative to normal combustion transportation, with the added benefit of low fuel costs: Zeco's electric scooter costs just 70 cents for every 100 kilometres. In comparison, fuel for a comparable petrol scooter is ten times that, or $7 for every 100 kilometres**, resulting in an estimated savings of $1,300 a year***. Additionally, the maintenance costs of the E-max scooter are approximately 85% less than a traditional petrol scooter.
Zeco's electric scooter is the ideal solution for short commutes and a refreshing antidote to urban congestion, cramped public transport, declining oil supply, pollution and rising costs.
Companies with a concern for the environment will now have electric vehicles (EVs) as an option in Singapore. The E-max scooter dramatically cuts operational costs up to 85% while simultaneously reducing downtime for maintenance.
The E-Max 90S and E-max 110S will be offered at a recommended retail pricing of SGD$6,999 and SGD$7,399 respectively (prices exclude COE). The first shipment of electric scooters is scheduled to arrive in Singapore in the first quarter of 2009.
Zeco unveiled its first showroom and service centre in Singapore at 32 Eng Hoon Street. Opening hours for the showroom are daily from 10:00am to 7:00pm. Test drives are available upon appointment; sign up via the company's web site at www.zecoscooters.com.
