After receiving plenty of good feedback, the Land Transport Authority will ramp up its Silver Zone programme, which focuses on elderly-friendly road safety features.

Previously planned to have 30 zones up by 2020, the ramp up will have an expected 50 zones by 2023.

This recent change was announced by Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong during the kaunch of the recent Silver Zone at Marine Crescent and Marine Terrace last July 2.

Among the elderly-friendly features of a Silver Zone includes mini-roundabouts instead of T-junctions to regulate the speed of turning vehicles, as well as "pinch points" where the road lane narrows down, encouraging vewhicles to slow down. These pinch points also have courtesy crossings and also feature ramps to allow wheelchair-bound seniors to easily cross the road.
