The first thing that caught our attention when reading fast facts about the Polestar 4 was that it’s a “new breed of SUV coupe”. How much more different can it be, you reckon? BMW’s X5 was initially termed a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) and Ferrari made notable efforts to inform us that the Purosangue is not called a SUV (Read: Ferrari Utility Vehicle - FUV). Perhaps now any relationship to the SUV naming is sacrilege, so much so that Polestar emphasised that they have created a “bespoke car for this segment with this body style”. Let’s dive into the details…

Middle ground magic

Polestar 4 is positioned between Polestar 2 and Polestar 3 in terms of size and price. A long range dual motor (78kWh) Polestar 2 costs S$290,000 with COE now, so we can expect it to be a fair bit pricer than this when it arrives on our shores by the end of next year.

Rear window delete

Who needs a rear window when you can rely on side mirrors? Thanks to the elimination of the rear window, the glass roof stretches beyond the rear occupants’ heads. Stargazing in a Polestar - it’s doable now, when stars align.

Fluid dynamics at work

Aerodynamic efficiency is enhanced by the low nose, retractable door handles, flush glazing with frameless windows, rear aero blades and air flow optimisation around the rear light bar.

It’s the fastest Polestar ever

Polestar 4 sprints to 100km/h from rest in 3.8 seconds, thanks to 544bhp and 686bhp for the long range dual motor variant. 4-pot Brembos with 392mm rotors at the front help to keep its 2.3-tonne weight in check.

Efficient clutch work

A disconnect clutch for the long range dual motor Polestar 4 allows it to disengage the front electric motor when not needed, maximising its range to up to 564km (WLTP). That’s only 36 km lesser than the single motor model with around half the power output.

Eyes, everywhere

A total of 12 cameras, one radar and 12 ultrasonic sensors are fitted as standard. This includes a driver monitoring camera, which only relays data and does not record video, to monitor the driver’s eyes and head movements to help avoid incidents related to fatigue or incapacitation.
