A Space-age 2CV roadster, anyone?

A Space-age 2CV roadster, anyone?

Ever since Volkswagen reconnected with its roots with the new Beetle, carmakers have been delving into their past to re-create their own ‘beetles’. Citroen is adding a new twist to this by giving its little C-Buggy concept car a futuristic space-age theme, complete with an exciting, feature-packed microsite.

Characterful, small cars like the 2CV are a Citroen speciality, and the French maker aims to keep this true for it future line-up as well. For the C-Buggy prototype, a 2-seater roadster based on the C-Airplay (a small but stylish coupe) Citroen takes the idea of a fun-loving beach car, and makes it futuristic.

Its got a gun-metal grey exterior, no doors (you have to jump in) and a bright, weather-proof yellow interior. The instrumentation and controls are all centered about the steering wheel, and a plug-in iPod-like device makes it a mobile boom-box. There is no windscreen to give a full wind-in-the-hair effect.

Even more exciting is the futuristic space-age website that Citroen has developed for the C-Buggy: http://c-buggy.citroen.com.

Underneath all the impressive sci-fi inspired styling and features, the C-Buggy has a 155bhp 1.6-litre engine coupled to a permanent all-wheel drive transmission. This means the car is entirely ‘realistic’ – lets hope Citroen puts it into production.
