Aston Martin: Movin' on up!

Aston Martin: Movin' on up!

As if the brand and its products were not luxe enough, Aston Martin is planning to position itself even further upmarket.

When you hear "Aston Martin", the images that spring to mind consist primarily of a suave automobile that's been tailored to its owners specifications. It's the hand-built car that also serves as Mr. James Bond's ride.

According to CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez however, this simply isn't exclusive enough. The company is seriously planning to take itself even further upmarket (read: charge even more for their cars).

This means that prices will be raised to match their Italian competition, namely, Ferrari. The Vantage's price would be raised to the DB9's level, while the DB9's price would be raised closer to the DBs'.

With most of the world's economies experiencing slowdowns, Aston Martin hopes to reduce costs by producing fewer cars. But by upping prices, the brand will still ensure its exclusivity.

The DB9 is due to be replaced in 2011, and if Aston Martin is serious about this new plan, the DB9's successor could be designed to match Ferrari's 599 in both pricing and performance.
