Audi Q3 Compact SUV Makes Global Debut
It might be the super compact of the bunch, but this generation boasts PHEV option and advanced lighting tech from larger siblings.

It felt like ages ago when the Audi Q3 was launched. It sat on the PQ35 platform and when it made its debut in 2011, it had to fend off competition from its VW Group siblings, most notably the VW Tiguan and Skoda Yeti. First-gens were offered in 1.4 and 2.0-litre turbocharged flavours, while later models came with a 1.5-litre option. A Sportback form factor followed. There was even a mild hybrid variant a couple of years back, alongside the full-fat 5-cylinder RS Q3. Now with a new Q3, it’s not too far-fetched to assume that at least one variant will slot nicely within Cat A COE boundary.

What engine options are there?
There’ll be the entry-level petrol-powered, mild hybrid 1.5-litre TFSI 110kW, a TDI (which we will not be getting due to new diesels being banned in Singapore), and a e-hybrid 220kW PHEV which we are hoping will deputise here. We should also expect 150kW and 195kW versions to be available in some markets.

Is the new Q3 spacious?
There’s a 488-litre trunk, and with rear seats folded we’ll be getting 1,386 litres.

It looks rather menacing
Immediately we are drawn to the sleek, tapered headlights that remind us of new, larger Audis. D-pillars are sloping and fenders are designed to be flared - reminding us that it has sporty intentions. Rim options range from 17 to beefy 20 inches, with tyre width available from 215 to 235mm.
Matrix LED headlights
It uses a micro-LED module - a first for an Audi in this compact segment. Illumination is improved significantly, increasing driving safety.

Digital stage
There’s a 11.9-inch infotainment cluster next to a 12.8-inch touch display. It forms a curvature to be driver-centric. This Q3 will also make do without the gear selector in the centre console. It’s now located as a lever on the right side of the steering column.

New suspension with damper control
3 suspension options are available - steel spring, sports and a suspension with two-valve damper control, which continuously reacts to road surfaces and adjusts damping accordingly. Progressive steering will come as an option, too.

Plenty of driver assistance systems
Standard features include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning with emergency assist, traffic sign recognition, attention and fatigue warning with driver monitoring and front emergency brake assist just to name a few.
