GM has said that it will introduce a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine as soon as next year in order to improve on fuel economy yet not having to sacrifice on the power. The engine may find home in the engine bay of the Chevrolet Cobalt (Mid-size sedan like the Optra) or the Opel Astra.

GM move into smaller turbocharged units may be late, considering that other makes such as Volkswagen and Ford are already selling similar engines in their cars.

However, it is always better late than never!
