BMW revising the i8 for 2017
The BMW i8 was introduced to the public in 2014. It has been in production for several years now, and, like most German car models, is due for its first update. Rumour has it that the new version will hit dealers in late 2017, and will receive a power bump, courtesy of a 10% boost in the electric motors, and the 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine will also be worked on. Expect the final 2017 i8 to have 420 bhp, as compared to the current 362 bhp. However, the chaps at Munich aren’t just turning up the power without revising any other of the mechanicals -the six-speed automatic transmission also getting a refresh. The battery is expected to receive a bump too, with the MY2018 cars getting the 10kWh one as fitted to the Formula E safety car. The combination of everything should result in an i8 that is even faster than before, hitting 62 in faster than the current 4.4 seconds.
