Car owner retrieves car after scam
Mr Navin Chandra, a civil servant, had sold his two-year old ride to the now defunct KS Automobile, currently under investigation for failing to deliver vehicles to customers, despite receiving payment. KS Automobile offered Mr Navin $38,000 for the car, which he accepted. However, since his car loan was worth $40,200, he had to pay $2,200 before the firm would purchase the car from him. The dealer was meant to pay off the loan once it was handed over. Everything seemed fine, until Mr Navin checked 3 months later. To his horror, the car loan has not been cleared, and the car is still registered under his name, which means he still has to pay the $40,200 loan.
Although he had not been driving the vehicle, he still received a traffic fine, proving that the vehicle was indeed resold. As it turns out, the car was being driven by an unsuspecting buyer who paid $3,000 for the car, not knowing that the car was still registered under Mr Navin’s name. Mr Navin managed to retrieve the car after a friend spotted it on the road and tailed it.
Mr Navin has made three police reports over this case. Although relieved to get his car back, he is not optimistic about getting back the $2,200 that he paid. To make matters worse, he also owes three months' worth of loan instalments, adding up to about $2,500.
