Chery to build small cars for Chrsyler
[B]Update 3 Jan 07[/B] Chrysler CEO Tom LaSorda has confirmed that they are indeed working with Chery on a compact car to be sold everywhere, from America to Asia, but it will not be the Hornet. As to what car it is, nothing much else is know. "The Hornet is a great statement of our design," LaSorda said. "It is also a statement that it’s something that we’re going to continue to take a look at, and depending on the business case going, we’ll look at that independently from this particular project."

DaimlerChrysler has signed a preliminary agreement with China's Chery Automobile to build a small car for the Chrysler Group, according to Automotive News. The two companies have long been rumored to be in talks about a compact car collaboration.
While Chrysler spokesman Jason Vines wouldn't confirm the identity of the new car, it is widely believed to be a b-segment vehicle based on the Dodge Hornet concept (pictured). Chrysler was originally rumored to be talking to Volkswagen about sourcing a platform for the project, but in July the focus shifted to Chery.
According to well-placed sources, it is unlikely that the Chery built cars will make their way into the US market. The car will be sold under the Chrysler or Dodge brand in international markets, although there is no indication on whether it will be sold in Europe.
The deal still requires approval from DaimlerChrysler's supervisory board, which meets in January, as well as the Chinese government.
