Count me as one of the skeptical ones when the Chevrolet brand was launched in Singapore in 2002 - the year the US invaded Iraq! But from being badge-engineered Daewoos, Chevrolet, originally (and still) an American brand, is becoming more reliant on its Korean design team for new products, and possibily, its survival.

The watchword is "Global Design", and GM has created this website to explain this idea of how a Chevy can be designed and built in Korea, yet still be true to its American - now "Global" - identity. Its under "Philosophy" in the ChevroletDesign website.

The website also features nine prototypes with development and concept sketches, four of them from its Korean studios. What's even more important is that its the Asian designs, such as a Beat and Orlando, that will see production. The Beat will be the new Spark, and the Orlando will be a 7-seater MPV, the Chevy equivalent to the Honda Stream/Toyota Picnic/Nissan Lafesta.

An intersting prototype is the T2X, could it be the Captiva's replacement? Check it out at http://www.chevroletdesign.com/
