BMW will be set to take on Audi's Q3 and Mercedes' BLK model when it expands its X-range in 2010. For automakers, smaller and more fuel-efficient vehicles seem to be the wave of the future.
The X1 will utilise the X3's four wheel drive system, while its engines are to come from the 1 series range. Diesel engines, will of course also be offered.
With the X1's sharp styling and brand name pedigree, BMW will be aiming to grab some sales from other small off-roaders, such as Toyota's RAV4 and Honda's CRV.
