Current Toyota Prius will still 'be around'

The current Prius will continue to be sold alongside the new one in the Japanese market.

Toyota president Katsuaki Watanabe told journalists that "They (both models) will have different engine sizes – 1.5 litres and 1.8 litres – and we figure there will be demand for the two to co-exist."

Toyota executives in Europe and the U.S. have stated that they will discontinue selling the current six year old Prius once the latest version becomes available.

Mr. Watanabe declined to comment when asked if Toyota would do the same for its other markets outside Japan.
