Ebrahim/ Local Team TaraDTM Strikes Pole Again!

The Formula Renault V6 Grand Race, which is the final one held after Saturday's Super Sprint race in Sepang, was indeed a brutal one. Out of 14 drivers, only seven managed to finish the race, and again, young Armaan Ebrahim, who is only 18 years of age, took pole position again with 15 points - the first double win of the season.

Ebrahim pulled away from the competition with ease. “It was a good race, from the word go I just kept pulling away and because the car was good I could just push for the whole 20 laps” he said at the Post Race interview.

“The track was very slippery in the beginning, and there was lots of understeer, which may have caught out a few of the guys, but along the way it got better."

"The whole team is really confident going into the race in Sentul and hopefully we can repeat the good performance we had here."

Newcomer and 2nd place finisher James Winslow (car number 88), was off to a good start to the series Championships despite the exhaustion after the race “I’m exhausted! I’m from England and obviously am not used to these kinds of temperatures”.

“We were quick in the warm-up this morning and there has been a progression of speed. We had a handling problem, the whole race I had oversteer”.

Winslow was quickly added that he was lucky during the race, giving credit to his team for the great preparations.

Third placer Parthiva Sureshwaren said “It was a pretty lucky race. I started last and I got bogged down a bit at the start and I had to work past a couple of back markers. I got caught up with them whilst the middle bunch ran away. So I was playing catch up the whole race”.

Taiwanese driver Hanns Lin and his team were not prepared to go out for today’s race but at the last minute the team completed the set-up for him.

“I didn’t know if the team could get the car ready in time, so I was not even in my racing suit. I got in the car without drinking any water and by lap 10 I was so dehydrated I couldn’t really see clearly”.

Lin managed to pull ahead to second, overtaking Marchy Lee for a moment before spinning out at turn one, on lap 17.

Bad luck then, for American driver Steh Ingham (car no. 71), who made contact with Indonesian Satrio Hermanto (car no. 58) on Lap 11, causing them both to spin off the track.

“I don’t know if I spun in front of him or he spun into me, either way he came into contact with my rear wing and we both went off into the gravel”.

While Seth managed to rejoin the race after a quick pit stop to change his rear wing, a very disappointed Hermanto was forced into retirement.

Last place Jeffrey Lee sustained some damage when he got into the gravel.

“It wasn’t that good of a race but I managed to finish. I do feel sad about my team-mate (Marchy Lee) because he had a good chance of winning”.

Marchy Lee also clinched a DNF (did not finish) just two laps from the finish line.

“I realised early on that I had a slow puncture. I just kept going and did not push. I hoped to finish the race and collect some points.”

Lee ran out of luck though, and the tyre caved in at full speed on the main straight. Amazingly, Lee did a magnificent job of slowing his car down, safely pulling off from track at the exit of turn 2.

Another unfortunate spate of mixed events befell the other TaraDTM, Singaporean Hafiz Koh. Even his racing experience with the A1 Grand Prix and Formula BMW could not clear him from a faulty wheel, slippery track surfaces and a minor spin during the Sprint race.

Hafiz came in 5th, ahead of Seth Ingram, which was nothing short of amazing despite the bad luck he had over the weekend.
