EU: Mercedes intends to develop hybrid hypercar
Mercedes had no intention to produce a hybrid hypercar to rival the offerings produced by McLaren, Porshce and Ferrari just 12 months ago. Now though, rumour has it that Mercedes has plans to work on just such a thing. Although the engineers in Stuttgart and Affalterbach would like to equip their future flagship with AWD and yet still retain their traditional front engine layout, the fact is that it would almost be impossible with current Mercedes platforms. Since existing platforms cannot be used, it makes sense for the automaker to go all out and develop a mid-engined Mercedes AMG hypercar. If it does come to fruition, expect the flagship AMG to be equipped with the firm’s new 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8, which should produce close to 1000 bhp after it has received assistance from a few electric motors.
