F1: MP4-29 to be launched on the 24th

A new set of regulations will bring out ridiculous concepts as a result of different interpretations of the rules. As excited as we are over here to see the variation in design, it will be some time though, before the first of the 2014 F1 challengers are revealed. So far, the only team that has planned an unveiling of their Turbo V6-powered F1 car is Mclaren. The Woking-based team will pull off the wraps of the MP4-29 virtually on the 24th of January, 4 days before the first scheduled test at Jerez. The MP4-29 will be the last Mercedes-powered Mclaren, for they will be reuniting with Honda for the 2015 season. Development started unusually early for a front running team; Mclaren endured their worst season for nearly 30 years, and quickly focused on the 2014 car in a bid to achieve better results this year. Their underperformance was attributed to the relative lack of pace of the MP4-28, which came as a shock to the paddock, as the MP4-27 was a competitive car that could take on the likes of Red Bull. The last Mercedes-powered Mclaren may also mark a livery change - many speculate that the boffins at Woking may switch out the chrome for their iconic orange used in their early cars and the legendary F1LM. The rumoured change in livery has been triggered by the departure of title sponsor Vodafone, and their split with Mercedes next season.

We already know that Lotus will give the first Jerez test a miss, and start gaining mileage at Bahrain instead. The Mercedes Works team has announced that they will be launching their car at Jerez on the 28th January.
