Water levels rose as high as half a meter in some areas, making vehicle travel nearly impossible, according to an online Straits Times report. Badly affected areas include Orchard Road, Scotts Road, Evans Road and Stevens Road.

A driver caught in the rising waters on Orchard road, Mr. Adrian Tan said: “It was bad. The water was muddy and rising fast. Thankfully I got off the road and into a multi-storey car park before things got worse.”

Other affected roads include Coronation Road West, Fourth Avenue, Kings Road, Kheam Hock Road and Veerasamy Road.

According to the online Straits Times report, the National Environment Agency said that about 100 mm of rain fell in the short span of two hours from 9 a.m to 11a.m. That translates to approximately 60% of June’s monthly average rainfall.

The NEA also predicts “light to moderate rain” across the island for the rest of the afternoon.
