Frankfurt Motorshow Day 2

Frankfurt Motorshow Day 2

We started Day 2 of our Frankfurt Motorshow coverage at the Mercedes-Benz hall. As with previous years, the Mercedes-Benz hall is impressive with four storeys of exhibitions. Of course such an impressive display demands an equally impressive budget with rumours that the German marque spent $22 million Euros on this hall alone.  Notable displays include the all-new GLA which Mercedes-Benz is introducing (rather late I might add) in response to BMW's X1 and Audi's Q3.

Most exciting though were the displays at the AMG exhibit where the German marque's Skunkworks division displayed their latest creations. Among the most exciting was the A45 AMG. The latest blisteringly hot hatch shoved with the most powerful 2-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged powerplant in the market. Now just weeks away from appearing locally.

Also at the booth was the CLA45 AMG that is being marketed as an affordable race with a sticker price of just 100,000 Euros. It's basically a stripped out version of the street machine with a 200kg weight reduction from deleting the interior and insulation.

Although most eyes were on its bigger brother, the SLS-AMG Black Series that's a lightened version of an extremely fast car.

The Audi booth was filled to the brim with some exciting new models. Though all eyes were on the new Quattro concept that the Audi has already promised will be put into production. The Quattro is a homage to one of Audi's most successful racing cars of the 80s. That dominated the rally championships that captured the world's attention with its unbeatable Quattro four-wheel-drive system.

On the supercar front, fans were not disappointed. Ferrari unveiled their fastest 458 ever with the 458 Speciale. A stripped out version of the Italia with more power from the 4.5-litre V8 that tops out at 605bhp.

Not to be outdone, Lamborghini too showcased their LP570-4 Squadra Corse. Based on the Gallardo Super Trofeo race cars, this will be the most powerful Gallardo ever produced with 570bhp from its 5.2-litre V10 powerplant.
