The Cannonball 8000 franchise is built on the classic Cannonball Run movie trilogy of the 80s. Founded in 2002, the inaugural Cannonball 8000 rally saw 50 cars travel from London to Monte Carlo over three days of fine dining, exclusive hotels and special arrangements. By the 2007 rally the number of participants had grown to 120 cars, 240 drivers, running from London to Zagreb, with the drivers being welcomed by Mayor of Zagreb. This event also raised more than S$300,000 for charities. (See the following pictures)

The 2009 SEA Cannonball Rally will see 50 of Singapore’s supercars, along with 100 drivers depart from National Museum / Muse on Friday 24th April 2009, before driving up the Orchard Road / Somerset Road / Orchard Boulevard route to Tanglin turn, then coming back down Singapore’s main shopping belt and continuing past the Fountain of Wealth to the expressways and on to Kuala Lumpur.

This route was chosen specifically for the viewing opportunities it provides – its not often that we see 50 such prestigious cars together, and never from such a wide range of leading marques.

Upon arrival in Kuala Lumpur, participants will be treated to fine Salsa sounds and a grooving party at QBa, opposite the Ritz Carlton, Cannonball’s official hotel for Kuala Lumpur.

Early Saturday morning the drivers will set off again with a full police escort to Sepang International race track, for a four hour track session. After Sepang, participants continue to Penang, for the Cannonball 8000 party, part two.

Early Sunday morning, the final day starts with a “Cannonball Breakfast” in preparation of the run from Penang to Phuket – the first time such a large group has made the trip. In Phuket, a “finish line party” awaits the participants, complete with fireworks display and all night grooving.

Rounding out the event will be a “Black Tie” awards party the following weekend for all participants and supporters. Commenting on what entices people to participate Conrad noted, “it is really the camaraderie, and the opportunity to share a fantastic drive in awesome surroundings that keeps people coming back year on year”.
