Local News: BMW Group Asia achieves 45% increase in first half of 2010.
BMW tops premium automobile market segment in Singapore.
BMW Group Asia continues its growth trend, with an increase in sales volume of 45% in the first half of 2010, compared to the same period last year. The BMW and MINI brands saw an increase in sales volume of 42% and 91% respectively, in the South East Asia and Pacific Islands regions.
“The result BMW Group Asia has achieved for the first half of 2010 has exceeded our own expectations. It is confirmation that our focused approach on brand strengthening and customer satisfaction works. Not only did each market in the region report positive growth, BMW emerge as the leader of the premium automotive segment in Singapore,” reflected Mr Johannes Seibert, Managing Director of BMW Group Asia. With a sales volume of 2,016 units in Singapore, BMW has taken over the lead in the premium market segment.
Mr Seibert further commented, “We attribute this success to the combined winning proposition of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan, the new BMW X1, and the update of the BMW 3 Series Coupe and Convertible. These models saw tremendous success across the markets; more than 600 units of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan were sold at its pre-launch, while the BMW X1 has already been sold out since its launch in mid-June.”
In the South East Asia and Pacific Islands regions, each market recorded strong sale volume performances. Especially Vietnam (+155%) and Brunei (+108%) achieved remarkable growth rates, while Indonesia and Philippines continue their steady rise at 47% and 32% sales volume growth, respectively.
For the MINI brand, Philippines boosts sales volume growth as MINI received an enthusiastic reception with the opening of the market’s first MINI showroom in Manila early this year. Furthermore, MINI’s upward trend is driven by French Polynesia and New Caledonia which recorded 83% and 74% growth respectively.
In the second half of 2010, BMW Group Asia will be launching the stylish BMW Gran Turismo, the high performance variant BMW Z4 sDrive35is, the updated BMW X5 in the second half of 2010 as well as updates to the existing MINI models. In addition, the world’s first BMW M exclusive dealer is also slated to launch on July 22 in Singapore.
“As the world’s leading premium car manufacturer, BMW Group will continue to define premium. We continue to lead in terms of innovation and will continue to offer the best products and excellent services to our customers,” concluded Mr Seibert.
