Local News: Price drops after close of COE bidding on 4 August

COE prices for Cat A for cars below 1600cc fell to $32,104 after reaching a high of more than $36k two weeks ago. Demand for Cat B COEs still seem to be high as prices in this category are up from $42,889 two weeks ago to $43,339 this time round. With lower Cat B COE prices, expect some price cuts for smaller cars from this week. Our guide here depict the models that have the biggest price slash after the price adjustments made by dealers so far this week:

Kia Sportage 2.0 EX (A) - $85,999 (-$10,000)
The Sportage kicks off a big discount week t Kia. The model on offer might be the predecessor to the new one that we drove last week but it still makes for a hardy compact SUV. Looks wise, it isn’t as pretty as the new model but it offers a competent package underneath the skin.

Kia Magentis 2.0 LX - $85,999 (-$10,000)
The Magentis might not look as contemporary to the likes of the Hyundai i45 despite its facelift last year but the big saloon is well equipped and spacious on the inside. The Magentis is powered by the same Theta ii 166bhp 2-litre motor that also powers the Koup among other models.

Kia Carens Elite 2.0 - $89,999 ( -$6,000)
The Caewns seats seven convincingly and offers a very practical and spacious interior despite its compact exterior dimensions. The Carens also offers loads of standard kit for the money, even more so in Elite trim. Power comes from Kia’s 2-litre four-cylinder that makes a convincing 145bhp. It’ll get to 100km/h from rest in 11.9 seconds and the top speed is 181km/h.

Kia Cerato Forte 1.6 EX - $61,999 to $64,999 (-$6,000)
The Forte’s success is the best thing to happen to Kia in recent times – it is Singapore’s best selling model for the first half of 2010 after all. The Forte’s winning formula is pretty obvious – powerful engines, a well-sorted ride, high levels of standard equipment, handsome looks inside and out and an affordable price tag. Two engine options are available – a 1.6-litre with 124 horses and a 2-litre with a competitive 156bhp. With a $6,000 discount this week, it might be the right time to jump in on this base spec model if you can’t wait a couple of years for COE prices to finally stabilize.

Kia Soul 1.6 - $74,999 (-$5,000)

The Soul is a mid sized hatchback cum urban crossover that is targeted at young drivers and lifestyle types. On the outside, the Soul has boxy styling that maximise interior space on the inside. To appeal to the fashionable set, the Soul can be customised with graphics and styling kits on the outside.

Other than the abovementioned models, car buyers will also save on Ford and Suzuki models in Cat A.
