Mr. Rene Gerhard Is BMW Group Asia’s New Managing Director

Mr. Rene Gerhard will step into the role of Managing Director, BMW Group Asia, from 1 February 2026. He previously led BMW Group Thailand as President & CEO in Bangkok for close to two years.

A BMW Group veteran since 2002, Mr. Gerhard has held a wide range of roles across retail and wholesale operations in Germany. He moved to the Asia Pacific region in 2016 as Director of Sales at BMW India, then shifted to Australia in 2019 to oversee BMW Sydney and MINI Garage as Dealer Principal. He later became Director of Sales and Dealer Development for BMW Group Australia, where he helped the brand achieve the top position in the local premium segment. In 2024, he returned to Southeast Asia to head BMW Group Thailand.

Mr. Lars Nielsen, who currently serves as Managing Director of BMW Group Asia, will relocate to Munich after 11 years in leadership roles across Thailand, the Middle East, and, since 2021, Singapore. He will take on a new role as Head of Sales Steering & Strategy for Region Asia Pacific, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa.

BMW Group Asia oversees 14 markets, including Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Brunei, Bangladesh, Nepal, Guam, New Caledonia, Tahiti, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.
