MY: Foreign cars to pay entry levy

Singapore-registered vehicles may have to pay a levy before being allowed into Malaysia in the future! Currently, locally registered vehicles do not have to pay any fee to enter Malaysia, with exception of the toll charges. The Johor State Public Works, Rural and Regional Development Committee chairman Datuk Hasni Mohammad proposed a fairly reasonable RM50 (S$20) levy per vehicle, which should remain affordable enough to not deter Singaporeans from visiting Malaysia, and he also believes it will not be an added burden for Malaysians working in Singapore. He added that Singaporeans have caused problems for the native Johoreans, especially when it comes to congestion in the city centre, and that since Singaporean cars are using the Johor road networks so extentively, it is only fair to impose a surcharge. This may also be a response to LTA increasing entry fees for foreign registered vehicles. Come Auguest, to enter Singapore, foreign registered vehicles will have to pay $35 per day, up from the $20 now.Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
