Fitted with Mercedes’ Pre-Safe and Neck-Pro systems as standard, the new E-class also features Adaptive Brake Lights, which flashes a red warning light, instead of the normal brake lights, during emergency braking situations. This significantly decreases the chances of a rear-end collision as their research shows other drivers being able to respond by braking 0.2 seconds earlier, resulting in a shorter braking distance of 4.4 metres when traveling at 80 km/h, and as much as 5.5 metres whilst at 100 km/h.

Meanwhile, the most relevant model here, the E200 Kompressor, has been re-worked to produce 12.5% more horsepower, boosting it up to 184 HP. The torque has also been increased by 10 Nm to achieve a peak of 250 Nm between 3500 – 4000 rpm. The result is a sprint from 0-100 km/h in 9.1 seconds, while maintaining a healthy level of consumption at 8.2-8.8 litres/100 km.

Prices start at $179,888 for the E200 and $217,888 for the E280. You can also get the sports car devouring E63 AMG, but then the price won’t be as relevant anymore, would it?
